Discover Transit by Tøm

December 29th, 2007 12:42 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Take transit to a city or distant neighborhood you've never visited before.

For this task, I went to Birmingham!

I didn't use public transport all the way, having already driven to Banbury from here, but from there it was buses all the way! I had been to parts of Birmingham before to visit family, but never gone far enough into the town, so thats where I headed. I had a camera with me to take some photo's to put a portfolio together for my college interview (curse the requirement of an art GCSE) so the photo's are a bit arty (I hope) and less people based, I like buildings! Great Yarmouth needs more tower blocks and railway bridges (which I passed on the bus and failed to get a photo of).

Whilst in Birmingham, I got crushed by busy sales shoppers, walked around the ICC, ate a Homemade Burger, visited a rather awesome shop (you'll probably see the attire I purchased in future tasks) and rock climbed (my hands hurt so much).

If anyone thinks any of these photo's are good, can you tell me which so I know which to include in my portfolio :) My favourites are:

This was right by the bus stop

The Iron man

Roof

Tower

Hook by the canal

You'll have to excuse my captions, I don't know what's what in Birmingham.

I suspect this to be my last Glasnostian completion, bring on insatiability!

We already have something good planned....

I agree with your favorites, but I also like the contrast, scaffolding and hyatt shots.

Thanks, I wasn't sure about the scaffolding one, would have really liked to have gotten closer.

The hook one is my favourite. Really cool.

I lived in Birmingham for six years - I'm quite fond of it.

Agreed. The hook is the best of the bunch.

The statue

The statue is by Anthony Gormley and is in Victoria Square in the city centre.

Victoria Square redeveloped and that was unveiled by Princess Diana.

There's a huge fountain which has a reclining woman in it. She's locally known as the floozie.

The tall round topped building.

That's the rotunda.

In the 70's there was a pub at the bottom (where the tourist info place is now) and it was bombed.

It's now being turned into luxury flats. (Isn't everything?)

The statue was awesome.

We have very little street sculpture here, it's all bollards.
