Disobedient Nature by Tøm

February 16th, 2008 9:30 AM / Location: 52.600889,1.7306417

INSTRUCTIONS: Search for, find, document an example of nature refusing to yield to or blending itself into a construction of modern man.

Document with photos when possible.

Examples should document situations where man has put up some restraint for nature and nature has disobeyed. While trees or other permanent plants are preferable, a basic example would be plants that grow in the cracks of the sidewalk.

I've had this one in mind for a while, and kept a look out for examples of nature fighting back, but had been unsuccessful. So on a whim this afternoon walking home, I took a detour and started hunting out examples.

Yarmouth has an old Town wall that runs through a lot of the town in small pieces now, and I live about 10 minutes away from quite a long section with a few of the towers thrown in too.

+ larger

Crawling up the tower
Pavement
Building rallies under the Union Jack
Clinging to the wall
Breaking through the cracks
Starting to overthrow the wall
Pulling sections of wall down
Ripping sections out
Conquered
Grass attack!
Hedge envelopes wall
Dragging the wall down
Getting into the crevices
Overswamped
Ready to take the tower
Breaking out from the wall
Stairs
Stairs from the top
Overspilling onto the stairs
Taking the arch
Starting to climb the wall
The wall

Yarmouth looks excellent from the backstreets around the town on sunny days, just a pity we get so few.

Might put this one in the portfolio too:

have any pudding if you don't eat yer meat?
