The Longest Bus Ride by Tøm, Adam
October 20th, 2007 1:35 PMThe Number 3 bus route is one of the many mysteries of Great Yarmouth. It runs from May - August and runs from Seashore Holiday Camp to Hemsby Beach. We wanted to do this journey as it is hte longest you can do without using long-distance coaches. It is around 16 miles from start to finnish. Unfortunutly this task took place in September. So it wasn't running. We caught the 1A to Martham then got off at Hemsby and walked down Beach Road to reach the final detination of the No. 3.
The Journey

Of course us, being us, we couldn't do this journey without food so we stocked up on all sorts of salty and unhealthy snacks and drinks and of course newspapers and magazines. When we got to the bus stop we had already missed the first bus so we caught the next 1A to come along. It was a coach, score! Usually coaches are reserved for the X1 service to Peterborough which is around 45 miles and they are very spacious and comofortable. When First dont have enough buses elsewere they use these coaches on local routes. And we got one :D. Hoorah! It was comfortable and we enjoyed our journey alot and ate copiously. It was like some kind of banquet.
The Wallet

When we got to Hemsby Kingsway I managed to let all of my money, cash card, keys and bus ticket fall out of my pocket and down the side of the seat. So whilst we were panicking I had to ring up First and Tom just looked confused. When the bus came back round I was soooo relieved to find all of my stuff intact on the back seat.
The Day

So after that fiasco we needed to continue the route of the bus so we walked down Beach Road to the end of the route! Huzzah! Our quest was over and we were also in the perfect place for a number of tasks including compiling some footage, providing some useful objects and of course seeing beyond sight. On the way back we got a cruddy bus but we did get to sit on the top deck and we did go past a wedding, which was nice.

Glad to see that you avoided the Greyhound!
Well without going to America or Canada it is very difficult to to get a Greyhound. It would be National Express here. The Excel service is run by First but they are long-distance within East Anglia.
'they are long-distance within East Anglia. '
That sentence is flawed.
Well in the UK Id say that Lowestoft - Peterborough [90 miles] (X1) or Norwich - Watton [30 miles] (X4) which are both long distance.
When you go to the US people will go 50 miles to do shopping. Which is ludicrous.
50 miles? I've driven more than 300 for shoes. Not recently, of course.
ps. I was just poking fun at the US-centric task description, however I do look forward in future, to more UK-centric descriptions...
"I've driven more than 300 for shoes."
Woah!
I generally hate moving from my chair to walk downstairs to get a cup of tea!
Thats like Glasgow to Portsmouth. I wouldn't travel more than 20 miles to Norwich for shoes.
Glasgow to Portsmouth for shoes!! Thats travelling cross-country.
'Probably the 8A'
They're ALL the 8A, all the others are an ILLUSION!
