Alternative Medium Art by Hemingway Kat

January 2nd, 2008 5:30 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Create a Work Of Art using an Alternative, Infrequently Used Medium.

I created two works of "art" using some construction paper I found while cleaning out my desk, a small pair of nail scissors, and a glue stick. I realize that construction paper is a frequently used medium for artists of a certain age (the eight and under set?) but I don't think it's frequently used by my age group.

Actually, it made for a really relaxing couple of hours.

Heart looks like a crown. And Red looks like a hottie.

Red's actually from a photograph of a friend of mine.

Heart was just me messing around.

Funny, I dig the 3D ness of the center of the heart and the implied sparkliness around the heart (the little black and blue and yellow squares... confetti or marquee like), and the clean, flat, minimalist look of Red (yes, she does look like a hottie... post the source image?).

And the funny part is that, although these two things sound kind of opposite, they work together nicely. Really nicely. Great work!

I don't want to sound too... involved about what is basically a school supply, but they're both very layer-y... Heart is actually a mosaic of a flame, with the heart layed over it, and then the 3D element. I'm actually thinking about re-creating it in another medium.

In Red, the black paper is actually what's cut, then layed over a cream-colored sheet, with the red over that.

Thanks for the compliment
