A New Map by Ben Yamiin

August 27th, 2007 2:59 PM / Location: 37.768217,-122.4536

INSTRUCTIONS: Make a map of uncharted territory.

What's more unmapped than...THE FUTURE?!?

The map is a simulation of the territory (albeit in a smaller scale).

bau bauD baUDRILL BAURILLARD! (מפריז)

Simulate the map with the territory.

Acquire supplies. (The camera lies)

Go to 64 bus stand locations around San Francisco and place a Gold Star on the map.

Intentions, make them unknown.

Mission-man by the bus stand: "Compermiso". stick-stick. Nod. Smile. Walk on.

The hipster couple chuckle. Chinatown frown.

Acquire disguise.

Nothing says SF like a rainbow keffiyeh. Pêşmerge? Pêşnîye!

Spray-spray-spray.

Walk away.

Change mind...go back.

Fix-fix-fi...POLICE! Run-no, walk-walk-walk.

Paint-to-bag. Keffiyeh-to-bag. Jacket-to-bag. Ego-to-park.

You will never penetrate my invincible armor of street kids!

Wait 30 minutes.

Return by car, photo-photo-photo.

Now the territory is accurate.

wow. you can't tell in the picture (waller and stanyan), but that star is about 100 feet away from a police station.

Ha ha ha ha ha! Simulacra and Simulation.... heeee... baudrillard... Poor guy died this year.

That day, I said to my boss, "So, Baurdillard died this morning."
He said, "and...?"
I said, "That's it. It's kind of sad."
He said, "Oh... I was waiting for the punchline."

Good job with the map, though. It makes me all giggly to undermine symbol.

Hmmmm.

Anyone who travels to 64 bus stops and paints in front of a police station for a task deserves a vote, if you ask me.

Anyone who does all that and then documents it with a hand full of unintelligible photos and nonsense verse in international fonts sacrifices their awesome tasking vote but gains a weirdness appreciation vote.

Hoorah for utter, senseless, bizarre weirdness.

I've never been so honored! I'm positively tickled!

Hoorah for utter, senseless, bizarre weirdness.

However, I do have to mention that the verse is not entirely nonsense. In fact, if anybody gets all the references, I'll collaborate with them on any task. Just post an explanation as a comment.

They were not allowed on board but I thought It was so funny that they even tried.....the mummy kid was worried about finding his bart pass the whole time!

As the bus pulled away..I particularly liked how the rest of the paper towel roll fell out and began rolling down the street! Priceless!

We need to find these people...and get a whole army of bus-mummies. If they don't let us on then, we'll claim discrimination

Wow! Did you really go to every bus stop?

And do you really know all those languages?

Have you ever been checked for OCD?

Or is the diagnosis just SF0?

Points!

not EVERY bus stop; there are a ton of them.

And I know a touch of the Kurdish and the Hebrew.

And it's more like the opposite of OCD.

Thanks!
