So the highest point in ⴶⴹⵣØ (AgadezØ) is the Grand Mosque, at 27 meters tall:

I climbed up the ridiculously cramped staircase

to the top of the minaret, where one is afforded amazing views of the entire city. You can see the Sultan's Palace, the old Sultan's Palace, the Old City, and, distantly, the Aïr Mountains.

Here's a panorama from the top of the minaret:

A wonderfully big, pointy building, no?

Wow, that's some flat country... Great complete, and yes, a great pointy building.

What an amazing place. Not many highest points to choose from. I would love to visit here.

The Mars Volta have a song called Agadez. I wonder if it reflects the feel of the town.

wow. i listened to the song three times and read the lyrics and i can't for the life of me figure out what the connection is.

the album art IS a street scene from Agadez, though.

Timbuktu, and Tiger too. You have been to where I've thought is one of the coolest places on earth. Was it all that? Is the issue re alkaida rebels a problem? How long ago was your visit, pre or post French intervetion? Has gold mining been affected? Props to you for having anything to do with this place.

this was 4 years ago, so it was well before any of the nasty stuff had started.

plus, this is Agadez, in Niger, so, no French intervention.

no rebels at the time when I was there (except for Tuareg nationalist rebels, but they're secular).

and yes, it's one of the coolest places on earth.
