The Taking Tree by carry_me_Zaddy

July 25th, 2010 7:18 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: Hide ten objects in ten trees.

I greatly admire saille's environmentally-conscious approach to this task. I mostly borrowed her idea, but gave it a more canine spin. I found a recipe for homemade vegetarian dog biscuits on Bullwrinkle.com then hid them in the trees of a neighboring dog park.

Taking Tree 01

A beautiful weeping willow. Can you find the hidden object?

Gather the ingredients and preheat the oven to 300°F.

Taking Tree 03

Dissolve two vegetable bouillon cubes in 3/4 cup boiling water.

Taking Tree 04

Add broth to other ingredients: 2 1/2 cups flour, 3/4 cup dry milk powder, 1/2 cup vegetable oil, 2 tbs brown sugar, 1/2 cup shredded carrots, 1 egg.

Mix ingredients into a ball.

Roll out ball to about 1/4" thick.

Here's where I ran into a tiny obstacle. I didn't have cookie cutters or cookie sheet. Instead I cut these shapes out with a butter knife (not recommended) and laid them out on an ungreased pizza pan.

Bake for 30 minutes at 300°F, and voilà!

I figured it wouldn't be fair to expect a dog to eat my cooking unless I was also willing to try it. I even convinced a few of my fellow FOEcakes to sample the biscuits. "Death Kava" anyone?

X marks the treat!

A bone. Puppy treat classic.

Taking Tree 14

This one was just a circle. It's hard to cut dough shapes with a butter knife!

Kitty face. Nom nom nom.

Diamond in the rough.

Tasty clover.

Ok, this triangle is getting a little O'Keefesque.

Taking Tree 19

Taking Tree 19

The square root of this task.

Taking Tree 20

Taking Tree 20

The tenth hidden object and my personal favorite biscuit: the heart.

Taking Tree 21

Taking Tree 21

Wait! There's more? I baked the rest of the dough into strips, so it wouldn't go to waste.

Looks like a caterpillar.

These bushes looked jealous of the trees, so I gave them each a hidden biscuit too.

This early riser found one of the biscuits in the bushes, but she had already devoured it before I could get within camera range. She let me take a close up while she sniffed my biscuit hand.

Okay - I super love that you actually got to see one of your treats found and appreciated.

And hidden at dog-height! Lovely!

I'm really touched to hear that my praxis on this one inspired, and that someone took that and ran differently with it. All kerfluffled and everything. I really need to take the time to post some of the other shenanigans i've been up to, and stop lurking here. thanks for the unintentional poke to do so :)
