Plasterboard to Gorleston by Cody Yordy, Borgasm

October 16th, 2009 11:29 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Find the oddest, loudest, largest, funniest or most-awkward object you can and take it on a public bus.

Borg: Hoo boy. I've been planning this task for weeks and weeks and it wasn't until Cody joined and got excited about it that I knew I could pull it off. The kid is a natural choice for a collaboration: daring, willing to try new things, and in LOVE with the great Shock Value. And my vision for this task would require a great amount of confidence. My plan was to dress up and bring my heavy-duty DDR mat on the bus. But that's not all. I wanted people to DANCE on it. To music blaring from mini-speakers. In the back of the city bus. I wanted it to be fun, exciting, and magical.

I spent an hour in the costume shop dressing up and everything (mostly, I think, I just wanted an excuse to dress up). I was chatting with people at the bus stop and making faces at a baby who wanted my cell phone charm in her mouth. I was pumped. We hadn't managed to find any good speakers, but I did have some good headphones that when blasted were relatively loud. However, as soon as I got on the bus, Cody informed me that there was a sign on the bus forbidding loud headphones or external speakers. Damn. So for the first ride we did very little and I was a sad Borg. But we had fun after the first ride, and if you watch our video you'll see that we did man up and do what we came to do on the second ride, with or without a large audience or strangers participating. :D

Cody: As we decided to board onto this bus at 4:05 to get Myself and a non-player to Borg, the bus was of course ten minutes late. When we had finally had the entire group together, we decided to wait until over half of the ride was gone, we got off near the Wall-mart and walked over to our Barnes where we planted a Tribute to Bullwinkle, soon after boarding the bus again after mooching 50 cents from a friendly stranger then we would begin dancing on the DDR mat at the back of the bus.

Borg: Cody's friend Jonnie was awesome. We lost him in the sci-fi section of Barnes and Noble, but met up with him just in time to head to the bus. After we grooved in our seats for a bit, Jonnie decided it was time for us to dance on the mat and started the dancing. :D

Overall, I think it was a fun little adventure we had. There may not have been an epic dance party with macarena-ing children and singing bus drivers, but hey, we had a good time. A few people noticed us. Several people commented on my outfit, and lots of children waved at Cody with his adorable stuffed tiger. It was a good day.

And that dance mat was a pain in the ass to carry back to my dorm xD
