Exquisite Dérive by Kommando

August 7th, 2009 1:12 AM / Location: -27.47922,153.03367

INSTRUCTIONS: Go on a walking journey and every fifteen feet draw a chalk arrow in the direction you're going. At the end of the trip, leave a big pile of chalk so a stranger can continue your journey.

OR

Walk a short route alone, then send a collaborator the last segment of your trip so that they can pick up where you left off. You may complete this in separate cities by using more generic instructions (e.g. walk three blocks, then turn left). Finally, walk the complete route you and your collaborators have created.

I dont know how i ended up buying chalk. it was a dollar. probably for some reason, or perhaps i was channelling my need to go tasking. i had no reason to buy chalk, just the calling of the derive.

As EvE shutdown for daily maintenance today i felt i needed to get out of the house. to wander aimlessly and discover things.
i grabbed my EOS 350D, my IXUS60, chalk and put a hat on.
it was 10pm.

i found my way down to the brisbane river foreshore just under the captain cook bridge. and it began there.
i walked along under the cliffs, admiring the city lights and marvelling at the way the cliffs glowed. i photographed some climbers and some toilets. trees and the little arrows i was leaving behind. and when i arrived at an arbor gateway i ascended the cliffs and left my chalk behind, a little legacy for those who might follow.

it was well past midnight by the time i got back to the car. i had taken over 250 photos and marvelled at the beauty that resides just over the river from our fair city. i had an experience worth sharing. so i share it with you.

great night photos & additional commentary beside the arrows (including some sf0 plugs, of course!)
