Yay, more tasking with friends. It had been almost a whole week since our last adventure. So we went looking for treasure! I thought I knew the perfect place, I had found treasure there in the past...

So we dressed up in suitable treasure hunting gear and set off along the cliff top. It was beautiful day only marred by the fact that I lacked funds for ice cream. Oh, and the third person in the picture is the beautiful Sammy.

We went the cliff top way because the usual car park is along the teenyist windiest lane and I drive my home around so its quite monstrously large and on a beautiful sunny weekend the chances of meeting a car coming the other way were just too high. Harold (my home) might get stuck or have to back up half a mile or more. So we went the long way. It was very beautiful but standing up top we could see our destination was a really long way away, and an awfully long way down.

You can't see how far away from this picture, although it is very nice, so you'll just have to take my word for it.

We found our first piece of treasure then. A lovely bleached rabbit skull in perfect condition, with no bits of manky brain stem or anything left in it. Very cool.

The way down the cliff was a zig-zaggy path lined with scraggy trees. Its pretty steep and falls away in some places. Half way down there is a mysterious hole that goes under the roots of a tree. It is manmade but the stonework inside is really old looking. It goes twenty feet or so then peters out. Don't know what its for, maybe an old spring or something, but it is very cool. Seemed like a good place to look for treasure, but there wasn't any. In fact, I think I will go back there and hide some for the next person who discovers it. That sounds like a good idea.

The there was some flatter walking through one of my favourite landscapes on the Island. Then more extreme down action to the first beach.

This was never the best beach for finding treasure, that was further along, but I was hoping we would find something. No joy though. The beach was mysteriously clean. We did have a little run around half naked though, as there was noone around, its a pretty isolated place.

We climbed back up the rope and went along to the next beach. Tis always used to be the best place to look for treasure. It was always covered in about three feet of detritus that had washed up. Once there was the hugest pile of quality timber which had come of a distressed vessel, and another time there were loads of little plastic eggs with toys in which was just the most fantastic treasure ever. I also found a huge lump of pitch once which I'm going to melt down and mix with beeswax to make a pitch-bowl for repousse (however you spell it) metal work, a way of making jewelery, then I can make my own treasure.

But this time the beach was almost clean! The prevailing current must have changed or something because I have come here once or twice a year most of my life and its always been horribly polluted, which is very sad 'cos its in the middle of such a beautiful wild area. So finding it almost clean was a pretty neat treasure in itself, which is just as well, 'cos we didn't find anything else really. We looked very hard.

We did find this...

Which Sammy and Evilweavil decided was treasure. I was a little more sceptical.

In the end this was the sum total of our haul, plus the aforementioned skull which we forgot to put in this picture, making our feeble result look even more puny...

The little coloured pebbles are sea glass and the big thingy bottom right was an enormous gnarly tooth, which I think must have come out of a really big cow.

Oh well. At least the beach was clean, hope it stays that way. If not, then at least there's more treasure. Always look on the bright side.

The walk back sucked. Far too much up.

Over all though, a fantastic time was had by all.

Whether or not the jar constitutes treasure would seem to depend on how much marmite it had left in it. (And, I suppose, also on your opinion of the stuff.)

I got vegemite on the mail yesterday. I am not sure if I'd treasure it.

Especially if it had been mouldering in the sea.

Ahhh, but marmite doesn't moulder - that's the whole point of the stuff.

Why has this not attracted more points? Great places for treasure hunting, and very nice treasures. The rabbit skull especially is prime...

Quite jealous about the rabbit skull.
