Ethereal Cartography by Morte

November 7th, 2008 3:05 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Make a map of something that does not exist physically.

I decided to make a map of my thoughts and feelings from the time that I left work last night until the time I got home. The interesting bit is in the middle, which led to a detour several hours removed in time and countries away in feeling.

I don't know how to embed the map in the praxis, so here's a link.

Unexpected problems.

Update: I have deep contusions of my calf muscle (all the way to the bone), fractured calcaneus, and possible other fractures but they can't see them through the bruising. Upshot is that I'm in a walking cast for the next two weeks and they won't give me any drugs. And they haven't caught the guy that hit me yet, either.

I know some people might say that this is opportunistic tasking, and it is in a way. I didn't decide to get hit by a car in order to complete this task. I was looking for a way to affirm to myself that I was still alive and ok, that the drug haze was exactly that, a drug haze and not some delusion of life in the moments before death. And mapping out and writing down the emotions of that journey and that time seemed to me to be the perfect method of catharsis. And the act of posting it affirmed to myself and to the world that it did happen and I am still here.

I am still here.

Update 11/18/08

The fractures are healing very well, and I tentatively get my cast cut off in three weeks. Maybe. If it's looking good and I stay off of my foot more. *sigh*

The important thing is that it keeps my toes warm.

What It Says

What It Says

Be aware of what's around you, even if it is dark and rainy. Hell, especially then!

This is the second one, but the first one was more of a shapeless bag thingy.

Horrifying.

At first, but then it settled into a very steady annoyance that I was still damp. Being annoyed at being damp kept me from focusing on the pain in my leg.

You focus on what you can, yanno?

gripping but I wish the subject matter was different +1

Such a long ride! Unfair, so unfair all of it. The guy fleeing, geeez, how? Why people has to be nice afterwards. I really hope you had some pain-free, warm peace today. This seems appropriate. unfurled-MED.jpg

I get hit by a car about every other month, but thankfully haven't been injured beyond scrapes and bruises. I now ride mostly down the middle of streets, it sounds backwards and more dangerous, but riding between the flows of traffic I find to be much safer. Get better soon.

This is the second time since August, both of them hit and runs.

My first car was totaled in a hit-and-run. Big-shot attorney. Some people just think they are better than everyone else, and I wonder how this person lives with themself now. Whatever they say to people, they know they hit someone and drove away. At some point, I'm sure they will wish they got out to help more than you do.

Actually, I think at this point this guy is probably congratulating himself on getting away with it.

So sorry that you had this painful and frightening experience. I hope you'll have some really warm and pleasant and interesting things happen in the future, kind of to make up for it.

Never. Let it be known: if ever you find yourself in a cast, and can in some way manage to task with it, you will receive full vote points and approval from me.

Also, ouch.

I just thought of something. Do you need me to knit you a sock? I can totally use yarn that isn't so chunky. Let me know if you do, in what colours, and what size your foot/cast is.

That might just be the best thing ever. I would be honored to receive a cast sock from you.

Any color you choose would be awesome, chunky or no. My shoe size is 10.5. From the tip of my toe to the heel of my cast, it's about 12 inches and just above where I think my ankle is, it's about 13 inches around.

Let me know when you need my address, and I'll message it to you!

Soren: Hmm, it sounds like we wear the same size cast :) (I got big ole feets for a girl). I'll see what I can do with a sport weight, cause I think I'm right in assuming that it rarely gets down to 20 where you live. I just figured that it probably got chilly at some points, and I know that stupid shoe thing that they give you does jack all to cut the wind.

What's your favorite colour(s)?

Zer0gee: Heh, yah, I've got a few orders already from friend of friends that want to give them as early Christmas presents to friends that are in a similar situation. The next sock I make for me I'm going to try and write down the pattern, now that I think I've got it down.

Speaking of Christmas...

My cast is red right now, and if I have to get another I'll probably go for green so how about Christmas colors? Red, green, and white! A holiday sock!

Absolutely! Or maybe red and white stripes. Candy cane cast!! No, with a red cast I need to do green and white. I can even put a festive tassel on it. *hee*

Always! And it's really bloody difficult to embalm when you have to keep rocking from one foot to the other.
