Journey to the End of the Night Chicago by Morte

September 4th, 2008 10:18 AM

INSTRUCTIONS: A pursuit across Chicagø in 6 parts, staged on the night of April 19th, 2008.

The city spreads out before you. Rushing from point to point, lit by the slow strobe of fluorescent buses and dark streets. Stumbling into situations for a stranger's signature. Fleeing unknown pursuers, breathing hard, admiring the landscape and the multitude of worlds hidden in it.

For one night, drop your relations, your work and leisure activities, and all your usual motives for movement and action, and let yourself be drawn by the attractions of the chase and the encounters you find there.

If you participated in Journey Chicagø - as a player, chaser, or volunteer - please post your adventure here. We encourage you to be detailed and thorough. If you have photographs, please post them. If you don't, consider making a comic. Describe your chases, the people you met, what you thought of the route, the checkpoints, and the city in general. Feel free to make opulent references to Debord, de Certeau, Céline, Psychogeography, Social Plastik, subversive play, Reclaim the Streets, and the aesthetics of failure.

Yours,
Dax Tran-Caffee

I was a player with a team of 4 other people. Unfortunately I got tagged right outside of the Billy Goat Tavern. Spent the rest of the night scaring other players as a chasers and playing blocker for the one member of the team that made it to the end.

At one point we were trying to figure out how to get across LSD, and we ended up jumping down the wall into the Metra Rail area. Then we got stuck. Very very stuck. We had to hide from a train and my feet got soaked in a puddle, then we jumped up to the platform and snuck out of the rail station. We eventually got him across LSD and into the safe zone. I had a blast, and for days afterwards I was looking at the city with an eye to where would be a good hiding place or shortcut, and I got nervous when I saw people wearing red.

It really changed the way I viewed the city and the people in it. Makes me wonder if that's what it's like to be a paranoid schizophrenic. It was weird and wonderful, and I can't wait for the next one.

Thanks for playing!

I'm glad you got your feet wet.

The next one is here. I'm glad to see that you've signed up for training day tomorrow.
