Organizer:

Dax Tran-Caffee

Description:

The Architect
designs a city to be lived in,
but does not live there.

The Urchin
is part of the city,
but not part of the design.

Your identity is your only separation from destitution. Liars, Cheaters and Thieves can take away everything, even your Name, if they catch you. The Architect designs carefully to keep the nameless from using the city, but Secrets can be found in the alleys, the open lots, and the cracks between buildings - the Urchin cannot be excluded forever...

GAME SYNOPSIS:

1) Search the city for hidden locations where you can stamp your map. 9 stamps are required to enter the finish line.

2) Steal another player's Name by tagging them. The player who accumulates the most Names before reaching the finish line wins.

Dax, I would prefer to assist with the planning rather than run in the game, if you need me again.

The game is essentially unstaffed. Architect as an absent god and all that.

I am looking for videographers and help with organizing the finish line. This will take about 10 people. You up for either of those?

This sounds very, very cool.

I am not liable to be able to play, but I'm not forgetting about it quite yet.

Need to get new shoes.

Perhaps I should just allow bikes and rocket packs. Then see how far your little skates get you.

Depends on how much time you have. The dogs will take you there and back for $300, if you're willing to spend two days on a bus each way. As the bird flies it's more like $400, but the wait is much easier.

When we visited for Journey in April, each one-way (OAK to MDW) on Southwest was $99 (not including fees, compound interest, government theft, et c.) - and rumor has it that our favorite texan airline has a "long-term contract" to buy fuel. Thusly, I trust the prices will remain without those pesky fuel surcharges that have been popping up this summer.

I am also a maybe for this, and also somebody whose odds of reaching future CG0 events go up if they happen on Saturdays instead of Fridays.

I look forward to even maybe being able to get there, though; this sounds kickass.

Apologies for the Friday. Sometimes games just have to be time-specific as well as site-specific.

I can write doctors notes. Or maybe the Doktor can do that too.

posted by teucer on August 4th, 2008 8:50 AM

Friday is a night that makes a lot of sense for these games, I think - but it can be tricky for out-of-towners.

And in this particular instance I am more hampered by finance than timing; gas is expensive, as is eating in Chicago. But I'll try to make it anyhow.

If anybody is using lack of lodging as a reason they can't make it then fret not, any and all can stay at my place. It is plently large enough for a good 10 or 15 people. As long as those people don't mind sleeping in close proximity to others.
I have no food, nor money, but the place is uber ritzy and needs a good thrashing.

Love,

Something I just noticed: In the official rules it says there's a safe zone at "Lincoln Ave between Southport-Wellington and Barry-Greenview. [and within the Heart of Gold]" Which is curious, considering that the Heart of Gold is a full 3 miles (as the crow flies) from Washington Square park, making it twice as far from the starting line as any of the Secrets will be (all of the secrets being within 1.5 miles of the starting line). So there's really no reason why any players would be over there.

Most curious. More curious than the Soccer Field, even.

(no subject)
posted by Dax Tran-Caffee on August 23rd, 2008 7:06 AM

To be honest, I just wanted to use the Heart of Gold as a staging area for the finish line, because it is the most awesome venue I have access to, and the only place I can fathom putting a couple hundred tired people after a game (seeing what a disaster the Field Museum was at Journey). It's location is not ideal in the least, concerning where the game takes place, but leaving downtown and attempting to make it to the Heart of Gold by train without getting caught is a good excuse for additional adventure, and the possibility of intentional climax/reprise in the story arc.

The soccer field, on the other hand. That's a secret.

JJason, I am rather excited that you will be returning to Chicago! Think that your blind luck at Journey will carry over?
