The Treasure Hunters by Hope Murphy
March 5th, 2010 6:11 PM
I did this task like last summer, but for some reason never submitted it.
Hooray for cheesy tasks!
Treasure: –noun
1. wealth or riches stored or accumulated, esp. in the form of precious metals, money, jewels, or plate.
2. wealth, rich materials, or valuable things.
3. any thing or person greatly valued or highly prized: This book was his chief treasure.
Treasure: –verb (used with object)
4. to retain carefully or keep in store, as in the mind.
5. to regard or treat as precious; cherish.
6. to put away for security or future use, as money.
In my personal opinion, the greatest and most valuable treasure on the planet is love.
And not necessarily between just a boyfriend and girlfriend, or husband and wife, etc.
I mean between friends, family, and even strangers.
Screw gold and silver, jewels and riches. What this world needs is a little more LOVE! I want to bring sunshine to more people's day.
So, I'm hunting for love and friendship.
One good way to start spreading a little love and happiness, is with a hug.

And this is my sign.

And the back.

I went to Fred Meyers first.
And I brought along my greatest treasure in the world, Pachi Bookrar, who mostly documented and took pictures.

I got 10 hugs while there. Two of them were children, and it was extremely cute. Unfortunately, Pachi was in the bathroom when they hugged me, and I thought it would look WAY creepy if I randomly took a picture of someone's child, after hugging them.
But these are the pictures we DID get.

This is Tawny. She works at Fred Meyers, and was really cool. She and Ken, another worker who did not want a hug, were probably the only reason we didn't get kicked out of the store.

The Grandma. She said that Grandma's loved hugs.
The camera wasnt on when I hugged her, so Patchi took a picture of her at the ATM.

A random man.

An old friend, whom I haven't really chilled with for quite awhile. Our friend-relationship thing is rather complicated right now, however, he still wanted a hug. However, I was glad I still got to pass on some sunshine to him.

An old man, and someone whom I believe to be his wife.
And then off to Wonderland park.

Where I found Thomas H. Keane III and Nicholas Baker.

There was also another random girl, but we didn't get a picture.
And, here's a totally irrelevant picture involving random members of AK0, showing each other some good, old fashioned, friend-love at Wonderland.

I got a ride home from Sham Wow, and got one last hug from him.
I got 14 hugs total today, and i actually did find a treasure. I'm pretty sure every time I see Tawny now, we'll smile and wave. Who knows, we could become good friends one day. :]

For day two, I wanted to do something a bit different.
I decided to write random inspirational quotes on drawings of mine, and leave them around Carrs, which is today's target.
Just a little something to brighten the readers day.
While I was making these, some of them got a little... hippie-ish.
...my bad.
"Circumstances and situations do color life, but you have been given the mind to choose what the color shall be." - John Miller
"A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery while on a detour."
"There will be love, love, love, wherever you go." - Noah and the Whale
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only love can do that."
"The best way to destroy an enemy is to make him a friend." - Abraham Lincoln
"Shysters live from scheme to scheme, but my fourth quarter pipe dreams are seeming more and more worth fighting for." - Kimya Dawson
"Yes, I believe in love. Yes, I'm a dreamer. But I'm not alone. There are more of us that you suspect, and we've got bombs. Truth and beauty bombs."
"In peace, the sons bury their fathers, but in war, the fathers bury their sons." - Croesus
"Your thoughts and words are powerful." - Kimya Dawson
"I've been smiling lately, dreaming about the world as one. And I believe it could be. Someday, it's going to come." - Cat Stevens
This quote accurately displays my reasoning for this task:
"Riches would do us no good. We could not take them with us to the other world. We do not want riches, we want peace and love." - Red Cloud

"When the power of love, overcomes the love of power, we will know peace." - Jimi Hendrix
"Imagine no possessions, I wonder if you can. No need for greed or hunger, a brotherhood of man. Imagine all the people, sharing all the world." - John Lennon
"The best way to cheer yourself up, is to try to cheer somebody else up." - Mark Twain.
"Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds." - Bob Marley
My reasoning for these is really just to cheer some people up, or make them smile, even if it's only for a minute.
But who knows, maybe someone will read one of these, and really take it to heart.
Maybe they'll treasure it.

So, with these flowers and hearts, I'm hoping to find more "treasures".

Carrs.
I couldn't bring my sign, because I was getting picked up by Pachi in a few hours, and going to Anchorage, and there was no room for the sign in their car.
I started placing the hearts and flowers all over Carrs, trying to be as inconspicuous as possible.
A few of the pictures...

You can see the others in the pictures all the way at the bottom.
I kept walking past the hearts and flowers I had already passed, and saw a few people staring at them.
A few people looked confused. Others were smiling. :]
Which means I won.
As I was leaving Carrs, I met this dog, who name was apparently Sarge.

He was awesome, and, originally was going to be alone for another hour, while I waited for Pachi to pick me up. Instead I spent the hour with Sarge.

He liked me, lol.
Anyway, before I went over there, he looked lonely. His master had tied his leash to the car so he could move around outside.
I was glad that I went to Carrs today, because if I hadn't, I never would have met this amazing dog. Lol.
Eventually I had to leave.

D:
Anyway, today was a success, because I did manage to brighten some people's day.
Though, by doing these things, I didn't specifically gain some sort of object(s), but I did gain happiness, by bringing happiness to other people.
Everyone wins. :D
One year later, I've still got my sign, and I plan on walking around with it more, and getting more hugs, making more people's day just a little brighter.

OMG! My brother is such a cutie~~~! When he was little I always hoped he would look better when he grew up and he sure does!
Also, great praxis!
God I miss being this chirpy and enthusiastic. All the 'free hugs' people in London look like they have a mental disorder and/or lice. Oh well, nice completion.
