I installed both a physical and metaphorical mirror to reflect on one of my favorite locations, Davis Square in Somerville, MA. I used the metaphorical mirror (a sign, some index cards, and a marker) to give away the physical mirror (stained glass and mirrored glass). The instructions on the sign were to leave your contact information and write down something you like about Davis Square for a chance to win the stained glass piece. After installing the mirrors, I stuck around for a few hours to record reactions. (See photo captions for the complete story.)

The physical mirror reflected traffic, passersby, pigeons, clouds, and pieces of this and that. Since the mirrored glass was in fragments and the entire mirror was swinging in the breeze, you'd just get glimpses of the surroundings. The metaphorical mirror produced little snapshots of the area like this:

"I love walking into the square & finding a mob of people I know"
"Love Blue Shirt & oatmeal yogurt"
"I (heart) Mr. Crepe!"
"It's a nice place to live that doesn't require a car!"
"ART HAPPENS"
"I like the people and the cool art!"
"I like that Davis is so pedestrian & bike friendly"

I liked that the physical mirror was reflected in the metaphorical mirror (i.e. the mentioning of nearby art).
