Counting by anna one

INSTRUCTIONS: Count or measure something that has never been counted or measured before. How many CDs can you label with one sharpie? How long does it take for all the ketchup to run out of the bottle? How many times does a trafic light change in an hour? How many licks does it taket to get to the center of a tootsie pop?

What do you wonder about? Find out and let us know.

I often walk a certain 1.4 mile stretch between a certain player's abode and my own. The walk consists of twenty variously sized blocks, many of which appear at first glance to be of regular city block-size.

Being usually a bit tipsy on this particular walk, and even more usually a tad bit on the cold side, as it involves twenty foggy, windy blocks, I'm usually in death-march mode, walking with long, broad strides to make better time. I discovered recently that such a stride makes each step fall in it's own square of sidewalk and I began to count. This is what I discovered:

The average block contains 150 squares of sidewalk curb to kerb.
There are twelve of these blocks on this walk, totaling 1,800 steps.
The remaining eight blocks of varying sizes are 300, 80, 30, 425, 125, 100, 100 & 300 steps each, totaling 1,460 steps.
Each street of average size is approximately 20 steps across, and there are 18 of these residential-type streets along the route, totaling 360 steps.
The four remaining streets are 25, 30, 35 and 35 steps each, totaling 125 steps.

All told, my cowboy boots clack with forceful echo 3,745 times every time I drunkenly march home from MsSierra's house.*

* this count only includes steps taken on the city streets, not inside either building.

Final Cut, which was total overkill.
