Everyday Life by Sundroplets

INSTRUCTIONS: Don't go to work. Don't go to school.

What: Playing hooky from University of Nizwa in Oman
How: Road trip to Dubai
Why: General tomfoolery with the girls and to complete a task

This spontaneous trip to Dubai was a welcome treat. It is probably the closest thing to a Western city you can find in the Middle East, so it has a bit of a homey feel for us expats.

(see pic of Dubai skyline).

Our first adventure was when we ran out of gas in our rental car. (see picture of being stranded on the side of the road in the middle of the desert)

After our timely rescue we continued on our 5 hour drive to Dubai (see map of region)

We didn't have much of a plan, but we met up with some friends and did what most people our age do in Dubai when you live in lifeless Oman.

Shopping (see Mall pic)

and clubbing (see pic of us dancing and the Oxygen O2 club)

After dancing we went back to our friend's house to meet their friend, a famous Jordanian poet.

That was about the extent of the highlights from not going to work or school (or in my case the school I work at).
Thanks for reading my first task!

To locate Muscat look at the far eastern point. From there travel North West along the northern coast line to peak at the top. There ya go, that's the road to Dubai.

Most of the middle east has low white stone buildings, this is quite the anomaly.

Our rescuer came with gas in a water bottle! Thank goodness I was with my Omani friends and not a bunch of expat friends! I could imagine a bunch of Western girls flagging down cars on the side of the road!

There is actually a place in this mall where you can go snow skiing.... it's trippy to see something like that in the middle of the desert!

I am the photographer.... I had a bit too much to drink.. so forgive the quality. At least I had the sense to take any picture!

Here we are looking at his poetry fan site on the internet. :) He really is famous!

Hey do you have any pics from your Vegas trip with me in them? That would be cool to see them.

By the way, too bad "getting married by elvis" wasn't a task! hehe
