In the old days, people used to be able to go out and gather mushrooms in the woods and then bring the 'shrooms to their local pharmacist to weed out the poisonous ones. I defy anyone to find a Wallgreens that'd do that today.

Alternatively, I'm told* nearly all shelf fungi are non-poisonous. Of course, that doesn't mean they're tasty...

Note that it doesn't say you need to do this using only yourself and the Internet. I mean, you could go on a mushroom walk or a mushroom society tour with experts.

I have family up in Minnesota that does this all the time. I went with them once and we picked bags full out in the woods. No trails, no guides. Just us and nature.

They were delicious.

Ha! We used to do this all the time when I was young-- a good friend of my parents was a mushroom expert.

Just look for the ones with pink gills-- they're edible meadow mushrooms!

Found mushrooms an ate them! Yummy! +13

Brilliant!
I was gonna start typing up a task, but I think I'm gonna have to go make dinner first. Those look amazingly tasty.

I've been seeking edible mushrooms for quite some time. My obsession with fungus has paid off -- richly -- in my finding Ganoderma curtisii, closely related (possibly identical to) the world-renowned medicinal mushroom Ganoderma lucida, aka reishi, aka lingzhi...

Score!

Not having a good source of rice-wine brandy in which to soak them (doing them traditional, elder Chinese gentleman justice), I made a water infusion. Mushrooms, meet pot of water. Simmer together for a while.

And enjoy.
