You win some, you lose some.
I'm a big fan of very specific, accomplishable tasks balancing out the majority of tasks which are usually open-ended. Especially Level 1-3 tasks.
Please ignore some websites that advice you to go and buy clay and sand and even suggest to varnish your Dorodango (HORROR!)
Such websites have likely been writen by the owner of some art shop in need of more customers or by some "compulsive buyers" from whom what is free simply cant be good.
Although, just crafting them already makes them special.
I decided to do this on my own two weeks ago!! I've already been mapping out locations for differently tinted soil in my area. Currently it's all wet and muddy from Winter, but I'm so excited for dry weather now!
I'm pretty interested in collecting soils from other places for variety. Perhaps we can start a little soil shipment hub...

I really enjoyed making these dirt thingys, it was like revisiting my childhood. I plan on making many more of these.

This was way more fun (and easy, all things considered) than I thought it would be. I filtered the dirt through a section of ordinary window screen -- you can buy a big roll of it at Home Depot for cheap and you'll be amazed how many uses you end up...
Generally, it is better to make the specific inspiration your title, and the general concept your instruction for tasks like these. There is not that much impetus for players to do exactly what someone else has already done as a praxis, even if they like the inspiration enough to try it themselves; you need to create some interpretive room for players to enact the spirit of a task in different ways.
This is at least how I do it. Does anyone else have a different way of converting a specific task-like inspiration into the general suggestion?
