Teams / Players / The Discourse of Players |
I LOVE the idea behind this, but I think it should be invite only. Mostly because I think that
1) people who give the effort to express an invitation are the type of players more likely to actually play and
2) because being a player should be a point of pride and earned, not just a button pressed then ignored. If we make it hard to get in, people will value being a member more and more likely to do tasks/assign tasks to us etc.
Thoughts?
Perhaps we could make it invite only after the first months and we just kick people out if they don't participate after a certain time. They can get back in if they ask, but it will help us filter dead players and still allow people time to jump in when they see how much fantastic fun we're having.
I think at the end of the year, we should all do a GIANT and EPIC task, together!

Triforce, so I don't get ignored.
While I do like the idea of this team, my current membership in it will probably not convince me to task any more often than I already do.
I tend only to task when I feel that I have found something that I can do, and in my own unique way. I don't personally like the idea of "forced rate of output". Sometimes I get busy, sometimes I get lazy and often right after I've been busy for a while. This can mean that I can go for well over a months time without having really even thought much about things to do in SF0.
I have been part of things before which required a certain amount of activity per time period, and often I'd find myself doing the minimum possible to keep in that. It took all the fun out of that activity, and in this case, would take away from the purpose of the activity if I were to half-ass it. It also tended to make me dislike the activity, even when the deadlines were removed. Some people love that deadline, because it forces them to move forward with ideas. I dislike it in leisure activities, because it forces me to do something, even when I don't feel like it.
I'm not asking anything about the deadlines be changed. I'm just letting you all know my thoughts behind it, especially since I can easily see myself being one of the first people being kicked out. You see, after spending 2 months in a foreign land, shortly I will be coming home. When I get home, I have LOTS of stuff I missed that need to take care of (cleaning, bills, sorting through mountains of mail), stuff I put off because I was going to be gone for a long time (searching for a home), and then theres also going out and seeing friends I haven't seen because I've been gone. I can see all of these things taking up much of my time for the next month+, then me going into a "lazy" period, then me suddenly getting busy again when I find a place and need to move. And well, it could be a hectic next few months for me! I might make some time for sf0 and other leisure activities in there, but it seems unlikely for now.
If I do fall out of the team, I wish you all good luck in your endeavors, but I am always a "long haul" participant in all of my activities. I take the turtle's role from the fable to heart, slow, stead, and awesome wins the race (but only when the pesky rabbits sleep or eat a poisoned apple or something).
Thought this shindig was supposed to commence come Thursday, and we've got nothing. Why?
Bryce, did you not get the message sent out on Wednesday the 8th? If so, let me know, and I can forward it.
Greetings all. I've recently completed a task, and it is now up for your perusal.
Best wishes,
Samantha
Greetings Players.
It is good to see some of you striving, growing, and playing.
The new Newsletter goes out on the 4th. If you have not tasked in a month you will be removed from the players and will not catch the newsletter sent out on the 4th. You can, of course, rejoin and ask some other player for a copy.
Inactivity has been the norm for a few months now. But as of July of 2011, jack the dog is going online!
It's time to prune the players again! Expect a news letter today.
I regret to say that I must take a long hiatus from the Players team, though hopefully not a permanent retirement. At the end of this week, I travel to Ecuador for a gap year of volunteer service. While this could well provide some fantastic opportunities for new praxis, it will make my tasking more irregular, and will certainly restrict my ability to post said praxis. I am entering a new chapter of my life, and my trajectory of desire may be radically altered in the next several months. If SFØ and this team still have a place in my life when I return, you will see me in May.
Farewell!
No worries Surpine! As long as the game exists the players will continue to task. I'm certainly not going anywhere, at least.
Player Newsletter goes out tomorrow. This time with a special twist!

Players get cut and added in the next two days, then the newsletter drops.
Newsletter and player rotations on the 5th.
The newsletter will be released on the 10th.
Tomorrow players get kicked and a new newsletter goes out.
...I heard you like playing games, so I put a game in yo game so you can play while you play.
Newsletter tonight. Just figuring out the perfect task.

I know this shift of Drive is abrupt. I decided if I can't make the game change, I can encourage it to grow instead. Invite every single player you can think of. I really want this to work out for the better.
