Pedestrian Permit Distribution by Blue, Lank, avidd opolis, Loki, Ben Yamiin

August 19th, 2008 8:41 PM / Location: 37.788926,-122.4021

INSTRUCTIONS: At least two people are needed for this task. Person one distributes free walking permits to pedestrians. Person two checks the permits around the corner. You may make your own permits or you may use these: PERMIT.pdf.

A couple of weeks ago, Sam, Sean, and Ian put out a call to SF players to help get SFØ in the faces of the viewers of WSJ.com, the online presence of the Wall Street Journal. In particular, their correspondent Andy Jordan has a Tech Diary in which SFØ would make the next entry.

So Avidd, Lank, Loki, Strum and Drain and Blueberry Mascarpone answered the call. We decided on this task, and that the perfect place to do it would be at the intersection of Market & Montgomery Streets, where there are lots of these little plaques on the sidewalk:

Avidd provided some nifty uniforms (see the video) and made a boatload of these little permits:

So we got together on a Monday evening, met with Andy, and he taped us "online gaming geeks" in action!

SFØ made the news!

Sweet completion. The security guy was classic - shut that camera down or I'll... do... something...

Interacting with security while tasking is always fun. They never really know what to make of it.

Now you're a Rupert Murdoch-approved activity for young people.

Uh-oh.

You say "Murdoch-approved" like it's a bad thing.

Hey, it's what I personally aspire to with my recreational time ....

Actually, it's kind've a personal goal to *upset* the Wall Street Journal, if possible.

Amazing. Seriously, everything about it is just... Wow. I was going to do this task, and now I'm going to have to think of a super creative way to do it. Well, it stops me from being lazy! Anyway, more thumbs up.

Did your manager recognize this as something so awesome he had to get an account just so he could vote for it as well? Because it is.
