INSTRUCTIONS: Pick a local public object that you enjoy and leave a note on it describing your feelings in great detail.

Dear Observatory,
I don’t know if you know me, but I’ve been watching you for as long as I remember. Literally a white castle on a mountain, seen from the ground by a kid, you’re a big, shiny mystery.

Gaining entry to you did nothing to diminish the awe I felt by looking at you. That this palace on the mountain was dedicated to studying, and helping people to understand outer space only made you better.

Observatory, growing up, to me you were a sign that adventure and mystery can and still do exist in this world. You helped me grasp the concept of humility by illustrating how small in the universe I am. This inspired in me the desire to discover and learn about the world I live in. You taught me curiosity. If the world is that big, I can never run out of adventures, or knowledge. That’s so rad.

You’ve given me some of the best views of my hometown, and have helped me to appreciate and love the city I live in by showing it to me almost all at once.

That time I got to climb up to the main telescope to see Saturn and his moons was amazing.

You are one of the reasons I love going to work in the morning. From my desk on the fourth floor, I have a big, palm tree framed, uninterrupted view of you every day. From the early morning when I get here and you start to show through the morning fog, to the afternoon when the sun hits you dead on and it looks like you’re a’shining and smiling at me.

Thank you for being in my life, Observatory,
Your pal,
C.M. Gonzalez

I like this. After reading this I want to check out the local observatory. Watching the stars is a nice thing to do.
