Out with the Old by Lank

INSTRUCTIONS: Leave an object that is precious to you, along with a note describing the object's value, in a public place for someone else to find.

I think the title of this task inspired me more than the description. It inspired me to get rid of something that it was about damn time to get rid of. Why hadn't I gotten rid of this thing yet? Well, I guess because it was precious to me.

My first girlfriend was a Disney fanatic. She loved going to Disneyland multiple times a year and would dress up as Minnie Mouse (only for trips to Disneyland, you perverts!) when we went. So yeah - I went too.

The girlfriend became a fiancée, and we were set on tying the knot, until after five years the whole relationship imploded horribly with much pain and misery.

I held on to a few items, though, that were special mementos from this relationship. One of them was Piglet. This little plush Piglet, a gift from her to me, had stayed with me for over ten years, traveling from town to town and apartment to apartment with me, usually stashed away in a closet, but always there.

Today I brought Piglet to work with me in Burbank. After work, I took my bike a few blocks down the street to the one place I felt was most appropriate to place Piglet, a place where a new loving home would surely be found for him.

I took him to Walt Disney Studios.

I placed him in the planter right outside the main gate, while the security guard was talking to somebody in a car, with a overly sappy note about how he was a symbol of a special but long past time in my life. I left him there, and rode off on my bike. He'll be okay. Disney will provide.

- smaller

Oh Piglet

Oh Piglet

Here he is with his note, tied with a cute little green bow.

The Note

The Note

Sappy. I need bourbon and vomiting.

I wrote this task. I'm particularly proud of it, and the way you completed it only made me more so.

Very appropriate drop-off spot.

This makes me sad. I'm a little weepy right now. I wish I saved anything from past relationships that I could leave out like this to complete this task, but I am constantly throwing things away to lighten my load. So I have no such items. Maybe I'll search in the deep boxes of my soul for something... anything.

"argh..."? Was it that painful? Or is it your pirate blood talking?
