Cut Your Hair by Ben Yamiin

July 23rd, 2007 8:06 PM / Location: 38.958833,-119.9422

INSTRUCTIONS: It is fun, free and entertaining. Why not give yourself a haircut?

I'll have to admit, I bent the rules a little on this one. I had my other half give me a haircut.

-BUT-

There were bonuses!

#1: She had no idea she was going to give me a haircut.
So I says: "Hi honey. I'm going to come pick you up. Bring scissors."
So she says: "Uh, OK."

#2: A public haircut. After obtaining the necessary materials from the local Raley's (some water, a squeezy bottle, a comb), we went outside to the main South Lake Tahoe thoroughfare, where most of the tourists pass by, and co-opted a deck chair. And I was wearing my galabeya.

#3: She's never cut hair before. Ever.

#4: For all you sticklers, I snipped a little off my bangs myself.

Ok, ok.

Yeah, I'm hapa. Hence the "Raza Cosmica" comment from before. My dad's Cantonese and my mom's English (by descent. We're all Americans). Which, of course, gives me super powers.

Cool cool. Yea, my dad was born and raised in India (he's punjabi) and my mom's mom is straight up British (still has the accent). Halfie Pride. Represent.

I like that you made it a public event.

Mmmm, I had the hilarious experience of one of my friends yelling "MORE HAPA BABIES!" upon finding out that two of my friends (who were both hapa) had started dating. Talk about awkward for them...

Anyway, I'm also impressed by the publicness. Way to be.
