Fortune Not Cookie by Juxtapolemic, Poisøn Lake

September 20th, 2009 12:33 PM / Location: 45.522420,-122.6818

INSTRUCTIONS: Install fortunes of your devising in permanent or non-permanent media in openable structures, such that passersby will come across them.

Because of the nature of the task, it's a little light on pictures...it's hard to be sneaky in a crowded bookhouse.

To begin, we wrote many, many fortunes. We each wrote some of our own & some were collaborations. Some favorites:

This book has been in the bathroom with someone you distrust.

This was written by a panda.

Whatever you're thinking about squeezing, don't.

You will be chased out of a bar by hipsters.

I ( PoisonLake ) added some stamps to the fortunes for added visual awesomeness, because slightly weirder & more amusing than finding a tiny message in your new book, is finding a tiny message with unidentifiable anatomic bits on it. After writing & stamping, we sliced the messages into fortune sized strips & took them to Powells' Books (which, for those of you unaware of it's wonders, is the largest independent bookstore in the world).

Like the fates, we were indiscriminate. We planted positive, negative, & neutral predictions & commentary, all unsolicited. We placed approximately 75 fortunes in all, mostly in the fiction & poetry sections. It's safe to say that anyone who buys a biography on Einstein or anything by Bukowski in the next few days will get a tiny bonus near their binding.
