Shifting Medium by Juxtapolemic, Poisøn Lake

INSTRUCTIONS: Create graffiti in an unusual medium.

I (PoisonLake) thought much about an appropriate medium for this task & at first wanted to use moss. Unfortunately, my kitchen things are in storage & no one I know was willing to subject their blender to the necessary process. Then one morning while packing my bento, as I cut my toasted peanut butter sandwich into dinosaur shapes ('cause I'm a grown-up) I realized that bread was a fantastic medium; shape-able, bio-degradable, & useful as fodder for various displaced woodland creatures. To keep it edible, peanut butter was chosen as an agglutinating agent. With the woodland creatures is mind, I dub this completion Guerrilla Bird Feeder.

Medium decided, Murdoc & I went in search of art supplies.

I then stayed up far later than I intended cutting out free hand bread letters.

Around 2:00am Saturday I went to sleep, intending to wake up early & finish the preparations. David called (& woke me up) around noon to ask if I still needed him to serve as look out & peanutbuttering assistant. I finished the cutting out & by 2:00pm, the letter placement had begun. We chose a vacant lot in Marysville's "historic downtown" near an apartment building & a bakery. That's about as bustling as things get around here. main_img012675772.jpg
After scouting the area for unwanted observers, we set to work peanutbuttering our letters.

We finished without incident, though one guy walked by "inconspicuously" craning his neck to see what we were doing. main_lettersonwall775758.jpgmain_lettersonwall875759.jpg
Having completed our task, we rode over to the giant stagnant man-made puddle that the city is fond of calling a lake & fed the leftover bits of bread to some fowl.

Yay. Now that's how you do it. Tasking I mean.

Bam!

That'll make people look twice. It definitely gets at the part of me that hates to see food go to waste, and what good is art if it doesn't hit me where it hurts?

Another task that inspires me to go task on my own, in part so I can give you the vote-points you deserve.

food waste!?! +2

crap. In part I actually intended this as an exercise in not wasting food (after that whole unorthodox bath issue). Probably no humans will eat it, but there's a large population of seagulls, geese, and stray cats in that area that I'm hoping will make good use of those nutrients, if that's any consolation.

Colour me consoled.

I just mean it triggered the sub-rational response, and made me think about food waste. I remember an advertisement for how quick and easy some software or website was to use, as demonstrated by a woman turning hot water in a tap on full blast, then walking out of the bathroom to her computer. Even though it is on TV, I was worried about overflowing the tub.

I really want to tag this as shplank, but my love for the response it triggers in passersby is curtailed by the remoteness of your wall. I'd definitely call this a shplank with a repeat performance in a venue of higher pedestrian perusal.

It is a bit distant from the main thoroughfare. We were somewhat concerned about coming across the publicly sanctioned "authorities", which are known for their over reaction & general redneckedness. But, I bought way more bread than I needed & can think of a few improvements I'd like to implement, so an amendment may be forthcoming.

This, I like.

Excellent message. (And a fun medium as well.)

being a grownup this way, to be proud of

Peanut butter brilliant! Guerrilla bird feeders FTW!
Moss sounds like a good idea but it seems to work only so-so..

Spray paint paradox for you.

So... I'm not the only one who cuts their PB and J into dinosaur shapes?

certainly not.

no sandwich is as satisfying as a dinosandwich.

I totally bite the heads off first. It's awful and wrong but, hey, the brontosaurus was probably asking for it.

of course he's asking for it +1

I have difficulty with velociraptors. But then again, perhaps this is playing god; if I succeeded, it might well be the instrument of my own demise.
