Tasks / Talk To A Telemarketer
Try to find out what their name is, where they're from, what sort of problems they're having in their life. Get to know them, if you can. Enjoy the telemarketing experience as a way to communicate with someone, rather than being annoyed by it.

Thanks to all of you Tac Haberdashes (Haberdashers?)
Let the games begin!
It's funny because this is my standard M.O. when receiving telemarket calls or door to door salesmen (I don't grill girl scouts selling cookies or people like that, but all of the religious yahoos get the full treatment every time). I've never collected the data though, that's a good idea.
That script doesn't complete the task at all.
But the task IS cool.
Most call centers exist solely because they can turn a profit on upsells and return business -- beyond tech support anyone else you talk to is going to be a salesman of sorts. For that reason, I think any of us would be justified in taking the task into our own hands.
i know its an odd comment to make, but this task sounds like a great way to meet people. not that i intend to use it as such, but it occurred to me that someone might, especially after reading silent seas praxis. =P
I would do this, but most telemarketers now are robots.
Hello me, how are you doing! I'm Phalene, who are you? You're Phalene too? Excellent. You were born in Montreal? Me too! What's your problem in life? Oh! You quit telemarketing and are looking for another job to make rent. Sweet. Can I have my 15 points now? :P

A teriffying day ended in a small victory for me. First thing in the morning my highschool went on lockdown. I was locked in my first period class and no one in the school was alowed to leave their classrooms. I had a doctor appointment but there we...
When I was young, dinner was always, always interrupted by a telemarketer. Dinner was also frequently interrupted by a member of the family or a friend calling to catch up, and as we didn't have a caller ID, we almost always answered. This lead to a ...
This was either the second, or third task that I signed up for, and it sat forlornly in my list of tasks for months. I don't have a land-line phone, and I'd registered my phone on the do-not-call list years ago. Telemarketers are few and far between....
So I signed up for this a couple days ago. Then I waited to be contacted. here is the information I garnered during about an hour long conversation. Name: Walter Married, 2 children, eldest is a daughter who is starting art school in the fall. The s...
His name was jeff from The Modesto BEE. i bothered him quite extensively until his earpiece was gurgling with blood. the time of this call was 4 min and 11 sec. the most i got was he grew up in texas and went to LA for some community college.
If this were a task, I would be torn between so many awesome ways to complete it. Current political phone banks would be great, but even on a longer time scale there are some excellent ways to do this besides the obvious. I just hope my comment draws enough attention to this task that it is ever a possibility.
