INSTRUCTIONS: Destroy a clock. Document.

It begins with a clock. It always does.

An alarm clock

I used a screwdriver and a pair of pliers to take it apart, hoping not to damage the pieces.

Clock guts

But I was looking for gears of a more aesthetically desirable nature, and was not satisfied with nylon. So I turned to another source - a sturdy kitchen timer.

Timer

This one proved to have much better pieces inside.

Timer movement

But it isn't destruction I was after. I had plans for the pieces that went further than separating them from their clock.

Complete

The goal was a wearable lapel pin or other accessory, made of gears - and I'd say it worked out well.

This clock has long since stopped working.

Disassembling

Disassembling

The clock's already not going to work as a clock anymore, but I'm not done.

Clock face

I'd call that pretty destroyed.

A first glimpse of the timer's mechanism.

It's really a beautiful thing, even if you stop there.

And at long last, some of the pieces I was looking for.

Assembled

Assembled

Three of my favorite gears from the timer, while the glue that holds them together is drying.

Complete

Put the gears together carefully, and they become a spiffy lapel pin.

Awesome. And verra cool as well that you got something to wear out of it.

Very nice. Votes for making something beautiful out of the clock parts... I myself was drawn to do the same when I completed this task, there is something about the insides of machines...
