The Graphic Sonnet (Sonet Desinée) by Darkaardvark
January 4th, 2008 6:55 PMIt's also an example of how some tasks have been done so well that it's almost impossible to attempt to create something new using the same parameters.
I've stated my own thoughts on that matter before, and while I am in no way intending to attack anna_one for her statements, I was a little sad when I read that. In large part, I suppose, because I had already begun my own completion of this task. Now, I think Ink Tea's completion was awesome. And in fact, I'll admit my proof is directly inspired by it. But I think her completion is only one of many possibilities here. Hell, if we're creating a new genre, there can't be just one work. Is my work better than Ink Tea's? No. It's different.
Rant aside, here's what I came up with. I do plan on submitting it to a literary publisher of some sort, and I do *have* plans but I won't be able to carry them out before the end of the InterRegnum so I'll try to post an update when I have one.
It's really big, but I think it has enough subtlety to it that it needs to be seen at a larger size than just a thumbnail, so I've included two versions: The original for those of you who have nice fast connections and a smaller one (though it still isn't a tiny file) for those of you who don't.

I'm glad you tackled this one. It's a great task, and deserves more attention.
one of my favorite tasks. always loved Inky's work and have been desperate to see more people take it on (yay Interregnum). I'm signed up.
been wracking my brains, filing away images in my head, planning planning, some execution all along too. Very good work, Darth Varker
I think everyone should try it, and just flood some poetry magazines with it. Hey, epicness idea. If we could put together 100 graphic sonnets and deliver them to a couple dozen literary magazines, the editors would definitely wonder what the heck was up. We'd launch a new poetic form, a movement, even if they declined every submission. They'd be like "where the fuck did all these come from??" and eventually it'd catch on. Through attrition if necessary.
The more I look at this, the more it feels like a poem. I like that it has a feeling of movement, because sometimes winter seems like a stillness, so the contrast is interesting.
