One Cent by JJason Recognition
April 12th, 2008 6:01 PMStep 1: Choosing the Pennies. I picked pennies that I felt like had interesting dates.
1980, 1990, 2000 - for the 0's and
1991, 2002 - for the palindromes

There is a railway that goes past my house but truth to be told I have no idea when trains go across it. At the start of this task, I wasn't even 100% sure that trains do use that rail. This doubt was quickly placated when I arrived to put the pennies on the track and found a train there instead.

Two of my pennies were misplaced in another pocket, so only 6 ended up the rail. I also laid out three sticks by the side of the track, so I'd be able to find the place where I hid them without trouble. Since I didn't know when another train would pass, my plan was to lay out the pennies and then come back the next day, under the theory that at least one train must've gone past overnight. Which would've worked except

I live in Minnesota. Where apparently having a whole bunch of snow in the middle of March is acceptable behavior. I don't know where this idea comes from. When I arrived at the train tracks, there were the perfectly clear tracks surrounded on all sides by an inch of snow and my pennies where nowhere to be found.

In an act of cosmic symmetry, just as my tasking was interrupted by cruel fate, so was my documentation in the form of my battery running out. So the next bit will be presented without the benefit of photographs. I grabbed up a piece of plastic I had used as a marker and dug around in the snow, without success. My pennies were gone, either buried under the snow or taken by some enterprising stranger. I left, my heart heavy.
Days passed. Thoughts of penny sending left my mind. Time passed. The sun rose, the sun set. The snow melted away. And then one day, I decided to go back to the train tracks. Perhaps the pennies would be there. And if not, I could always put more pennies. So I made my way to the train tracks and began searching around. And there! A penny, flattened by the train! And another, and another! My heart soared! One Cent could go ahead.

Of the pennies I left on the track, I only found 5 of them flattened. So I sent out five. And since I was sending another SF0 player mail anyways, I had the perfect opportunity. I included a note with my package, and sent it out. Done.

I dont know but you might want to censor Ben's address.
Shoot. I was meaning to do that, but I never got around to it and then I submitted without thinking. Sorry about that. I've removed the picture for now and I'll throw it back up once I find a moment to alter the photo.
Incidental Update: Apparently Minnesota thinks that a bunch of snow in early April is a acceptable behavior too. I mean, jeez.
You know, having a train run over your pennies is a great way to clean them.
Sorry!
A bit late, but here are some images of pennies and such.
You can just make out the White House on the front of a couple of them, but the train has really smushed them good. Nice job, sir!
No, no it is not.
See, that proves how smushed it is.
Why keep it a secret? Tell the world of your smushed-penny love!
Multi-tasking?
