nice video - if only in some way freeways were made safe for non-car travel - they certainly host some of the most direct routes anywhere.
I actually felt surprisingly safe. Safer than I do on the streets. The freeway lanes are wider and there is no cross-traffic and everybody notices when there's a bike on the freeway, not so much true with the streets.
Although I've shown these crazy things I do to friends of mine all of the time, for some reason this one people really thought was wrong. Of all of the laws I've broken in the name of SFØ, this one people just seemed to think was something that you just don't do.
interesting. i can see how cars would pay more attention to a bicyclist on a freeway - though it appeared you were facing slow-to-moderate speeds of traffic which definitely puts you at a safety advantage over being on a freeway with cars traveling over 65 MPH.
perhaps the source of the disapproval would be the fact that in breaking many other laws you are not also directly risking your very existence as a living, breathing thing.
This was actually the second time I did the Freeway Excursion. The first time there were four problems; 1) my water bottle fell out of my water holder and I had to stop and get it, 2) the front tire camera didn't work, 3) traffic was going WAY too fast and I never merged lanes, 4) I was traveling North instead of South on the 101, so there were a lot of lens flares.
The point being that no matter the speed of traffic, I felt safe.
And a friend said that the reason it seems so wrong to so many was because it was just something that you just didn't do. Everything else seems like something that somebody does.
This is hands down my very most favorite task you've done.
A friend of mine got a moving violation ticket from the LAPD due to biking on a highway. Glad you didn't end up in some weird police chase.
Those feet + the soundtrack, what's not to get nervous about?
I liked it but wouldn't do this myself. Especially after having a friend killed by falling off her bike under the tires of a cement truck on her birthday. I'm shy of dangerous heavy speeding things to small/lighter slower bike ratios. Neat task accomplishment though.
-5 to sanity roll...You WIN!! I bow before you. hai!
Nice!
Was this in LA?
