(1) Redundancy is good. (Redundancy is good.) If you're ever trying to do this, it's more successful to send many pennies to many people, rather than circulate a single penny along a lengthy path.
(2) But inefficient can be really interesting.

Phase 2: February through Spring of 2011
This task has been in progress for years, with sporadic cries of "Who's got the penny?" and much long-distance shrugging. The One Cent reboot began on February 18, 2011. We got our your pennies ready to send, and saved up nickels and dimes to pay for postage!
On March 6, 2011, twelve players were each given a not-quite-randomly ordered destiny list of all the other participants. Each player was asked to start a penny moving, enclosing that penny's destiny list. In the penny packet, along with the penny and the address list, they could also enclose tag-along souvenirs.
Upon receipt of any penny, the receiving player was asked to update this write-up with documentation of the journey. Then, using the destiny list that was accompanying that penny, the player should have mailed the supplemented penny packet to the next recipient.
