Desires by Burn Unit

April 1st, 2007 10:00 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: What do you desire?

I have desires. This is what I desire:
That the sun rise again and again. I desire The Future. Any good old fashioned future.
Bill Gibson's future; heck, Bill Burroughs' future!

The future of teeming interstitials and madness on the boardwalks—you can build it yourself and you can build it yourself from the atoms up. An end to all idols, permanent republics of desire, no borders to divide us

No really! No borders! No more!

A future pink and screaming, too light upon the scales
and from the dark a benedictory, urgent prodding:
into endless sunrises no more listing no more plodding!

Only flying only flying!
Give us the future!

Drive the future!

Draw forth the future!
Give me future
O yes!
I shall say "yes!"

The time and date stamp on this task are quite auspicious to me, but nothing amuses/piques my mind quite like the sight of these occasional, very late votes. It's not many votes, and it wasn't an enormous or epic task to begin with, but here it is, nonetheless, gathering votes late into its life. This paean uttered at the beginning of the era acquires more heft as we close it? My little proleptic, chrononautic, prefiguring bookend? One of the earliest glasnost tasks, one of the last of the little honeypots, sweeter with every passing vote? Perhaps it will grow on others.

I love this little jewel from your past. Here we are in the future, is it anything like you (or Gibson or Burroughs) imagined it? How far do we have to go yet?

Nossir, the future is not then. It's today. I think.

Double you tee eff? are these comment votes? if these are comment votes, you kids get out of my yard!

You boys! You little buggers! I heard you blatantly libeling me in the podcast. Putting words in my mouth how I'm "against comment votes." Who put you up to this? Was it Forbes? It was that Forbes boy wasn't it? I say I believe I was against a cumbersome comment vote mechanism that existed outside of praxis! If you want to comment vote you go ahead, but there's plenty of hard labored praxis from earlier eras that I would love to get votes for and we can both maintain the fiction that you're doing it for the quality of praxis.

Oh yeah, and I guess I thought about this one pretty hard. And there is that awesome dream machine photo in it. So for votes for this little praxis (as I believe yon uncertainty's was) thank you.
Thank you very much. :-D
