To be fair, the sign had already been OLO'd to "ANAL ST."
caRnal street wouldn't have worked for me as it would have meant squeezing a narrow 'R' between the existing letters and I wanted to maintain the proportions. Besides, Canal Street isn't noticably more carnal than the rest of the nightlife areas of Manchester, and probably less so than the studenty parts.
As I wanted to do something original anal street was never an option since that has been done to death over the years, including removing the 's' as well to make "anal treet"
