Metal Detector by zer0gee

May 22nd, 2008 11:17 PM

INSTRUCTIONS: Detect and pursue metal.

To complete this task properly, I obviously needed some sophisticated equipment that would allow me to detect the presence of metal. So I built a metal detector - it was an extremely scientific process, as I'm sure you will be able to discern from the photos below.

In pursuit of metal as per the task's description, I jumped in my car and utilized the detector to pick up signals. The first waves were very weak, and led me to a local Borders here in my Chicago suburb. I did indeed find metal there, but it was a small quantity and of questionable quality.

Driving into Chicago proper, I homed in on a stronger beacon. It emanated from Reckless Records, a local independent music store. There was a good deal more metal here than at Borders, but I knew I could find an even purer vein if I persevered.

Then it hit me - a signal so strong that it rocked me right the fuck out! I had found the mother lode! More metal than I could have possibly imagined in one single place...

OK. Sure.
I thought about detecting this kind of metal and now I'm glad you did so I don't have to.

I figured I had just completed a task that involved detecting the other kind of metal.

Also, it was fun waving the "metal detector" out of my car window at passers by.

This made me chuckle!...i challenge you to walk around in a densely populated place like those crazy old guys with high-watered knickers and huge belly packs, and have a alarm-ish sound that you can set off when you come close to someone you think is listening to metal on their fancy iPod.

i love it! now i am wracking my brain trying to figure out what a New Age detector would look like. And a jazz detector. and yeah, it just goes on and on.

I've been meaning to leave you this for weeks now...

Metal Store

Your device clearly works, as it led me here! But, this place was somewhat near to me already - perhaps some experiments are in order concerning the range.
