Dream Boxes by JJason Recognition
July 20th, 2008 6:28 PMA: Dreams, of course.
Q: How do you get dreams?
A: With a dream catcher. You should really think about these things before you ask.
For this task I built a set of a staggered system of two serial dream catchers to ensure a greater dream harvest than could be achieved by single catchers. This is, of course, nothing compared to vast industrial dream systems, but certainly sufficient for a home project like this one. The catcher system was left above my bed for several weeks so that many dreams could be captured before the
Q: Shouldn't the dream catcher be made of like wood and hide and grape vines and feathers and stuff?
A: That's how it originally was, yes. But I am a man of the city and my dreams are city dreams. If my dreams were too encounter a dream catcher made of wood, they would no doubt say "What's this? No matter, it clearly doesn't concern me" and pass it right by. My dream catcher is made of wires and bits of string and coat hangers that I've gathered over the years and spare shoelaces. These are the things of my dreams and that is what is required to catch them.
Q: What are the dream boxes made of?
A: The dream boxes are made of old newspaper (old college newspaper from my place of education, to be exact) origami folded into boxes
Q: Why are your dream boxes made of newspaper?
A: Newspapers are extremely good at keeping in dreams. This is a widely agreed upon fact.
Q: Did you really inject dreams into each and every box?
A: Yes. Yes I did. No foolin'
Q: What happened to the boxes you made?
A:Dream Boxes were distributed too:

Darkaardvark
Ink Tea
Star5
Burn Unit
Each was presented with two freshly made dream boxes, brimming with dreams collected as recently as the night before. They were forced to choose one. The unchosen box was then promptly destroyed, releasing the contained dreams back into the atmosphere.
Q: Why did you have to destroy the unchosen boxes?
A: That is our way
Q: Are there any boxes left?
A: Why yes. Would you like one?

No one asked. Few people look under my bed.
I received a dinosaur and a dream box, and lost both of them within a few hours. I feel like a bad person.
Though it raises some questions about dream dynamics. Are dreams ballistic objects, ejected from the sleeper, which hit your net and then fall to the ground afterward? Or, are they more like hummingbirds, self-powered things which become trapped in your net, exhaust themselves, an then drop to the floor? Or, are the facts that your bucket is a bucket, is on the floor, and is facing upwards unimportant? (Dream Leiden jar?) When you burn the unused box, do you leave a bunch of dreams rolling around the parking lot? Or do they fall through the earth and swing around in its gravity well until they encounter a string net or a paper box somewhere?
Whatever your dream model, do you recommend sleeping in a newspaper box?
Also, is BU sprinkling dreams on his meat?
Burn Unit's meat was in fact prepared with smoke from both hickory and dreams.
No, no. Dreams fall down from the sky, released by cosmic radiation. They drift slowly down from space until they shift into the proximity of a sleeper. Pulled in by the oneiric gravitational pull, they slowly spiral their way into the dreamer's head. But with the dream catcher system in place, they get caught in the net while falling. From there they flow down the string and are collected in the jar.
Sleeping in a newspaper box would only lead to you not having any dreams, as the dream would bounce off the outside and never reach your head. Every morning you'd find dreams clinging to the outside of the box, pulled in by your head but unable to breach the newspaper barrier. Of course, once you'd awoken, they'd no longer be attracted and they'd fall straight the center of the earth, collect in the molten core, and finally be released back into the universe in the form of aurora borealis.
I want one. I've never had someone else's dream before.
Destruction of the unchosen is a nice touch.
And the labeled jar under the bed with syringe, did anyone ask?
