Description:
I (Doktor Harmon) am working on capturing a strain of wild brewing yeast. But in my opinion it won't be properly captured until it can be passed on to others and used successfully. So, for anyone on SF0 who homebrews or wishes to start, I'm going to be distributing yeast.
If you would like some yeast, please send a private message to Doktor Harmon (teucer) including your mailing information. I will be mailing yeast out in one week. Alternatively, if you're in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area or attending Journey to the End of Night: Chicago, you can send me a message expressing interest and we may be able to arrange non-postal delivery.
In return for sending you your sample of yeast, I ask that you use it to brew something or bake something (I recommend using it to make mead or cider, but you're welcome to experiment) and let me know how it goes. (MN0 folks, I would be particularly interested in such a report containing more than just words and pictures, if you know what I mean.) This is because I won't consider my completion a success until I know others have successfully done something with the yeast.

You could also bake with it, though I don't know how that would taste.
Eh, I find it easier than baking. But that's probably because I've been doing it competently for longer, so the pieces of the procedure are far more natural to me. I still periodically discover only after making a loaf of bread that I forgot the salt, for instance.
They're both far more intimidating than the actual difficulty level justifies, though, for most people including me. I'm hoping that by distributing yeast I can encourage people to do more of whichever they like better.
When I mail the stuff out in a few days I'm also going to start a batch of mead with it (having used this yeast only in its wild form previously) and try baking a loaf of bread with it as well.
Yeast recipients:
I'm going to be sending the stuff out tomorrow. It will be sent by regular US mail, unless alternate delivery is arranged for, and should thus arrive in several days.
My technique for transferring it from liquid form to mailable dried samples on paper is one I found on the internet, and am not 100% sure it will work. It certainly won't arrive very vigorous, so I'm going to recommend that you make a starter by putting the paper into some sugar water for a while. I will include suggested instructions.
Anybody else who wants some can drop me a line; it's not like I'm going to run out any time soon.
This is wonderful.
I have no intention of brewing, however. But I very much encourage the spread of the wild yeast into the bellies of all those gorgeous SFØ lushes!
