Introduction
Ladies, gentlemen, refined persons of alternative genders, and ferrets, I'd like to invite you to join me in the completion of this task, somewhere in San Francisco on Sunday the 11th of May.
Time and Location
Instrument exchange and rehearsal begin at 2:00pm.
At around 4:00pm we'll make our way to a public performance.
We've got a rehearsal and performance location. We'll be rehearsing at Lowteck's royal palace, near Haight and Divisadero, and walking to a nearby park. Message or telephone any of the participants for detailed directions.
Planning
Please use the discussion section here to list the instruments you can offer, and to call dibs on the offers of others. Remember, the rule is that you must play an instrument which you've never played before.
The song list is under discussion, with several promising candidates in the queue. Message us for details, and feel free to suggest others.
We'll be listening to audio clips of the songs before and during the rehearsal. If you want to suggest music, either plan to bring a CD (or portable audio player with a 1/8" jack) or email an audio file to loki.sf0@gmail.com ahead of time. If you have sheet music, bring it - but you can't assume everyone in the group will be able to read. The real Sinfonia attempted only the best known parts of the best known songs. While I'm open to alternatives, I suggest we aim for a similar repertoire.
*** UPDATE ***
We've got a promising rehearsal location lined up (Lowteck's palace, near Haight and Divisidero), and a fine list of songs. Sign up here or drop me a note to get added to the discussion and to get detailed directions.
I want to stress that *anyone* is welcome to join us, whether or not you've ever held an instrument before. Talent and skill are neither expected nor required.

I can bring a clarinet, an electric bass (+small-amp), a tamborine, a djabarra (just like a shekere, only smaller), a talking drum, one tom drum...
...and two instruments I don't know the names of.
The first one is a West African gourd rattle, with a pierced skin over an opening in the gourd which is hit by two seeds on string on either side- it's part rattle, part drum and part shekere, plus it's got flattened bottle caps to make the noise even more loud and chaotic.
The other mystery instrument is an awesome bit of 60's nostalgia, a keyboard with a mouthpiece- it's a lot like playing a recorder, but with a keyboard, so you can play chords and whatnot.
I dont have any instruments of my own...but i've always wanted to play either the washboard (which i can borrow from a friend) or the saw(which i dont have but can easily obtain).
Yes, CM! It is a melodica! Thank you!
I also have a substantial supply of drum sticks, mallets and things of that sort...
If we do it in dolores park, i think i could make it, otherwise i think finals will be too heavily upon me for farther travel.
I have a wash board; soprano, alto, tenor, and bass jaw harps, slide whistles, tin whistles, shakers, maracas, tambourines, chromatic harmonica, chromatic home-made pan pipes.
I have never so much as touched a trumpet or a baritone horn.
Any chance I could join in via speakerphone? I've got m'harmonica. It's in the key of g.
I can bring an ocarina and see what else I can dig up.
Afterwards, though, I want a crack at that baritone. I did used to play that. And tuba.
No biggie, but the 10th of May is a Saturday, not a Sunday.
Might want to fix that :>
I call dibs on Anna One's clarinet. I've always never wanted to play the clarinet.
I'll plan on bringing a baritone horn. Any other requests?
Done. Just promise you won't make me play it.
I tell you what, Loki- I'll trade my clarinet for your trumpet- that way, we ought to sound just amazing.
Anna One, is was just looking at those on EBay for this event! They are amazing! and pricey...
A friend of mine made one a while back... I wonder how hard it was to put together....
Does anyone know from whom i can borrow an accordion?
if not i can do washboard and kazoo..i'm just not sure how appropriate those will be for the song choice...then again, it probably doesn't matter anyway
I'm bringing this hand flute thing from ecuador

I can bring a trumpet, a baritone horn, a djembe (drum), and several harmonicas.
