When:June 22nd, 2008 @ 9:00pm TO June 23rd, 2008 @ 1:00am
Where:
Engine Room of the Webster St. Railroad Bridge
1660 W Webster, Chicago, IL
Enrollment
10/12
Organizer:
Dax Tran-Caffee
Description:

It is time again, dear friends, to revisit the Webster Ave Bridge.
While in the past, CGO has celebrated this bridge with death-defying acrobatics, I believe a more polite gathering is in order to welcome the new bridge-climbing season (there will be plenty of time before the snows come again for more adventures!). I hereby call the first CGO Trellis Tea Party, to be held this Sunday, commencing just after twilight, in the burned-out engine room of the bridge.
What you will need:
* dark clothes, ideally black, tight fitting
* ability to scale one small wall, 6 feet in height (or willingness to learn how)
* a well developed fear of heights
* a quite voice
What you may want to bring:
* tea
* crumpets
* other deliciousnesses
* climbing gloves
* a camera - but no flash!
What not to bring:
* booze (no one will be responsible for helping you get down from the bridge once you are tipsy, and we have to leave you there until you sober up)
* clothes that will keep you from climbing: skirts, capes, slick bottom shoes/sandals
Access Suggestions (for the record, I didn't tell you this):
The Metra tracks are accessible from Webster Street, on the south east corner of the overpass, by means of a ladder. This ladder is covered by steel plate, but the rungs are exposed on the back side. The railroad tracks are LIVE, so keep an eye out for death by iron horse. While on the overpass, you will be visible from Ashland Ave, Webster Ave, the Metra guardhouse at Clybourn, as well as the Green Dolphin Jazz Club - so move fast, and stay low to the ground. The bridge's gutted engine room can be reached by climbing up the east trellis and making a slight reach for the catwalk - or - climbing up the stairs on the west side of the tracks, then scaling 6 feet of sheer steel plate that cover the ordinary access ladder. The catwalks are filled with holes and the hand rails have all come loose, so do not trust your weight on anything without testing it. Don't get caught, and I'll see you in the engine room!

Alas, I am out of town with Julian and Indy!
I so want to follow those directions I didn't read on another date, however.
Uhm, that was actually me. I thought it was odd that Indy RSVPd at the same time as me.
all of us who will be out of town. let's have our OWN tea party some other time. i really want to go in there.
also, it is funny that you still posted under indy's login when she has already moved out of your house.
This event will recur between July 17th and the 20th, as a welcoming party for our DCØ Senator.
I will be in Chicago July 12th through the 20th. :)
I'm coming up from the cornfields and bringing reinforcements
I figured the easiest way to share out the pics would be to put the URL here.
