All cities and counties who receive federal funding to provide housing and services for the homeless are required to conduct a count. This effort also helps inform the delivery of resources for services to help the homeless, and provides a means of measuring the impact of homeless programs and services.

The count will take place on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 from 7:00PM to 12:00AM. All volunteers will be provided training at 7pm. Once you sign up details will follow.

Yes, they're counting the homeless. They need both walkers and drivers. No solo missions, apparently. What's potentially great is that they plan to cover every street in the city, so you could well end up with a good, random route.

In addition to being a decidedly "____" thing to do, this would be an excellent opportunity to several other tasks (the easiest being Counting). Here's a couple:
Etc, etc. Whether you take on a HC task or not, you might consider giving people you run across something more useful than a number. And signing up here is nice for forming groups, but you need to head over to the sfgov web site to actually participate
