I see your point, mister unit. I think this is a fantastic task.
I think that from now on I will only be refering to Burn Unit as Mr. Unit.
Lets get Barbara Kingsolver to play sfØ...
The book Animal Vegetable Miracle is really awesome. You can check it out on disc at the SF Public Library, and it's read by the authors! They also have a great website with lots of helpful tips on how to eat local.
I just sent an email to Barbara Kingsolver:
Subject: You've become an online game!
To: Adventures@animalvegetablemiracle.com
Just thought you'd like to know that we made a
locavarian task called "Animal Vegetable Miracle" on
our 'online' game called SFZero.
People are already doing it. Please come play! (Its a
community-created game that gets people adventuring in
the real world! I'm sure you'd love it!)

I love your work! Thanks for writing about my hometown, Tucson!

Not much hope she'll see it, but still....
No offence, Bex, but that email could only sound more like spam with an ASCII penis or 1337.
I've been working on this task, I started to do it in July (in collaboration), and it's really hard to do "in the spirit" of the text, imho. Acquiring foods from all-local sources is very challenging, even living in a large city. Living on a diversified farm, maybe it's easier. But think about your staple goods or basic foods: flour, sugar, etc. Pasta? Make your own, but where are you going to get durum semolina that's locally grown and milled?

Minnesota is blessed with wonderful dairies and poultry farms, as well as mills, so access to some things is great. Like I made my own buckwheat soba noodles which failed and tasted pretty messed up. I made some dishes from amazing ingredients, but the effort was enormous. Really a challenge to sustain for a month.
