Unfortunately, I can't do this task.

Thanks to the AIDS crisis of the 80s, men who have had sex with another man at any time since 1977 can't donate blood. They're considering revising that law, but until that happens, some of us are not going to be able to do this task.

Still, that shouldn't stop the rest of you. Go out and donate blood, there's a shortage going on!

You could make fake blood, then donate it to someone, like me. When we can dump the fake blood all over our selfs, and walk down Market holding hands and flowers.

Maybe this should be the "sell/donate your body" task - blood plasma, hair, marrow, kidneys - it's all good.

And Jason, hie thee (with a crisis friend, I guess) do Designated Group Membership or Basis of Disadvantage! Failing that, what was the name of the Civil War practice of hiring people to take your place in the army if you were drafted? Or indulgences - if I donate blood and then sign something, I wonder if it would be right for you to get points (and I wouldn't, having pseudo-legally transferred the cred)?

There are actually quite a few restrictions on donating blood. See http://www.bloodbook.com/donr-requir.html for more info.
Also, I think I might be too skinny to donate...

I've tried twice now to donate at the Blood Centers of the Pacific and have been turned away both times for low iron count in my blood. I guess being vegetairian for 13 years (along with a poor diet) is starting to catch up with me. I'll try again in a few more weeks. Have to keep cooking in that cast iron skillet.

(In the Civil War era, a draftee could legally pay another man to take his place as a "substitute." One of my ancestors did this, and his papers were still in family records when I was a kid.)

I'm ineligible to donate blood because of this one -- "CJD: When a Blood relative has been diagnosed with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), or there is an increased family risk of CJD; can not donate."

CJD is similar to Scrapie or Mad Cow. Though as far as I know, the only way my father could have passed CJD to me is if I had eaten him. I was pretty insulted by this restriction.

No joke.

We went to The Blood Center of the Pacific. It had been years since I'd donated. I also forgot to eat breakfast, so I had two trips to the canteen.

This turned out to be quick and relatively painless. (I've had blood taken at the doctor's office before, but have never donated.) I walked into Blood Centers of the Pacific (Turk & Masonic) this afternoon and told them I wanted to donate. The...

I donated at the Burbank airport drive since my work is across the street. By doing this great act I also won two round trip tickets on anywhere JetBlue flys.

I had to take a small pox vaccination a little over a year ago so I'm inelligible to give blood for a few more years. Although I have given blood six times before that. Hopefully that counts.
