i'd argue that scrimshaw isn't particularly a lost art. i think something like alchemy or the process of making Damascus steel would be closer to a lost art. actually, i've spent time reconstructing medieval german longsword from old manuals written in the 1600's. i have also reconstructed with friends an ancient viking game. so, i think THAT is lost art. anyway, i'm not UoA of HC, so i can't use those without association with someone, and there just isn't time before the new era. just saying. scrimshaw=not lost. there are other things out there.

Wow, that's cool. I'd be interested in hearing about your game recreation and the sources you used. But we should probably take it to PMs.

wow. really? being a middle ages lit major that focused on nordic folk epics, i feel bound to encourage you to complete this task! if you are interested i would gladly:

a. collaborate with you on it

or

b. sign you up for it through the multilateral task exchange.

am i correct in my belief that tasks we sign up for before the era ends travel with us to the coming age?

Well, I'd say that the intended meaning of lost here is "an art that isn't widely practiced anymore." I mean, with the internet these days it's possible to find people performing almost any activity, no matter how obscure or ridiculous, so there aren't many arts that can be said to be actually well and truly lost, in that you can't find anyone that does it. If this task required you to rediscover an art or technique that's been completely lost to history, then I'd say it deserves a little more than 25 points.

Maybe it'd be better worded as "practice an rarely practiced art" but I think it's plenty clear at the moment and that it's a fine task as is.

Also: Taking tasks over to the next era is what I've heard as well, but of course I don't know first hand

The first interesting lost art I found on Google was lei making. (Practicing the lost art of listening, letter writing, or conversation didn't seem enough like scrimshaw.) I like the vitality of floral lei, but while chopping vegetables decided that ...
