Description:
We're fishing for talent folks!
For those of you who don't know, Pop Idol (AKA American Idol, World Idol, Bone Idol) is one of the by-now-far-too-many talent shows on television.
"Hey," I thought to myself one grey, raining, boring day, "it might be fun to see who on SF0 can sing well!"
So here's how this is going down. The first stage of P0p Id0l is the Audition stage. This audition stage is somewhat easier than that on the actual show, since all you have to do here is prove your willingness to sing on the internet.
Audition tapes (audio files only please, no YouTube vids or whatever) should contain a singer singing a single verse and chorus of a song of their choice a capella, and should be e-mailed to somestrangeflea@gmail.com, or transferred to me via Skype.
All tapes received will be included in the praxis which goes live on Saturday October 18th. The praxis will keep track of the progression of stage two of the competition.
Stage two is the Semi-Finals. The theme for each semi-final will be posted at Midday on Mondays, and contestants will have until Midday on Friday to turn in their mp3s, which must consist of the singer singing a song which fits into the theme, with backing music. The public will then have until Midday on Sunday to vote for the singer they want to stay in the competition. The act with the least votes will be eliminated. Lather, rinse, repeat until only one act is left: the winner!
Good luck!
Auditionees must be willing to record an mp3 once a week for X weeks where X is the number of contestants. Contestants failing to turn in their mp3 by the deadline will be eliminated. Only the winner of the competition will be added as a collaborator. Yes, that means I'm doing the "last player standing gets the points" thing.

Oh this could be awesome, I have Thai exchange students staying with me at the moment, so I'll try and send it off/record it asap...
Oh, btw, the times in the event are San Fran times.
Meaning that, officially, auditions started 20 minutes ago.
QUESTION TIME!
Q. What if you're using a song that doesn't really have a chorus?
A. Just use your best judgement, and try to keep it around 0:45-1:30.
Q. Erm, there is no Friday October 11th this year. WTF FLEA?
A. Oh frick I'm always doing this. SATURDAY October 11th.
Q. I don't know much about audio recordings - is there an easy way to record? Or would I need an interface?
A very simple way to record would be to connect a microphone to your computer and use Sound Recorder, but the recordings are limited to only 60 seconds and the sound quality isn't great.
I personally recommend Audacity as a free, fairly easy to use program.
Praxis goes up in 6 hours!
Get your tapes in people!
Right, I'm extending the deadline until the same time next Friday Saturday because... well... there was only one audition.
New Deadline - Midday SF Time (8pm GMT) on Saturday 18th October!
GET YOUR MP3S IN.
so next week is the deadline then ?
cus mine is really bad quality (I used my mobile phone)
cus I thought it had to be in asap ?
Do I have enough time to re-record ?
If 8pm this coming Saturday (not Friday...) gives you enough time to rerecord then yes, you do.
Otherwise, no.
EDIT: Nonetheless, get it in asap.
I haven't received a file from you yet...
Hmm...
Twenty-three and a half hours till deadline.
oh my...
bad quality of mine, do apologise
Oh, and suggestions for themes for the main part of the competition are always welcome!
