Events / Tribute bonfire at original site of Doorhenge

When:

December 22nd, 2007 @ 6:00pm

Download iCal file for Outlook, etc

Where:

The home of what once was Doorhenge
1326 John F Kennedy Dr. San Francisco CA

Enrollment

8/unlimited

Organizer:

The Vixen

Description:

So the Splashdown event is pretty much defunct. After some loose planning, I (and some other people) realized that it would be too environmentally destructive to toss around paint-filled balloons. For even if we used watered down, non-toxic paint, balloons aren't biodegradable...

If anyone has any violent objections to this, let me know and maybe we can work something out.

But if not, I still think we should go ahead with the bonfire. So bring your blankets, chairs and firewood! Your drinks, smokes and snacks! Let's celebrate the end of an era in style.

SF0 style, that is!!

We need firewood!

I don't know how much you have though about putting down plastic tarps or something, but please make sure that you don't leave this beautiful nature spot covered in broken balloon rubber and paint

Oh no, I'm definitely thinking this through. Don't worry about it. I've been exploring different options and all of which come with a clean up crew. If you have any suggestions, please set them forth; I want to make this as fun as possible while still remaining relatively eco-friendly and respectful to the site.

I am, of course, from Berkeley :)

when's this bonfire??

this sounds like a lot of fun. but yellowbear brings up a very good point. if there are so many people, each throwing paint balloons every which way, thats a lot of paint thats going to get spread all over the park. Even a hundred balloons could go very quickly if there's enough people.

I'm interested but, I'm curious about the different options you're exploring for dealing with this issue.

I'm seriously tempted to just drop the paint balloon fight and just have the event be an epic bonfire...

But I guess if there's no way around the eco-nonfriendly issue, we could relocate the fight to another, less fragile environment. I'm finding it hard to come up with ideas though.

isn't there a big art/garbage dump in alameda/oakland or somewhere in the east bay? It proly wouldn't matter to anyone if that place got trashed with paint balloons.

or someone's basement

Hmm... I'm going to look into this. Do you have any more information on the location?

The Albany Bulb.

NOT the Albany Bulb
posted by Fontana the Bird on December 18th, 2007 4:43 AM

Please don't dump a bunch of paint on the Albany Bulb. It's not just a former garbage dump and an outdoor art installation (although it is both of those things), it's also a place where a lot of homeless people live. It will matter to them if the place gets trashed with paint balloons. It's also a dog walk park and it's not so great for them either. It may not be as pretty as GGP, but trashing it is dumb, stupid and inconsiderate. Sorry to be critical, but I care about the place ....

Somebody's basement I could get behind .....

Well, after much deliberation, looks like this event (at least the balloon fight portion) is a no go until we can find a location that's ok to trash.

BONFIRE TIME!!!

Usually we burn things in effigy on the top of bonfires. in lieu of that, it might be kind of cathartic to offer up 2007 to the Gods via flames. I know that I have a bunch of things from 2007 that I need to let go of. (non-toxic items of course).

oh oh.... i have heard rumors spoken of a return to the green room (once temporary home of the trampoline) sometime in the future. rainy day tasking??

that could be an okay place to trash..... paint, balloons, tequila, and all....

I will load up with as much as I can conceivably carry......although I have a honda (no asian jokes please......well ok but only if they are good ones) so I am not too sure how much wood that exactly is.

The Battery on my bike just conked out, don't think that I can charge it in time. I am afraid that I won't be able to make it. I hope that another community event happens soon after the New Year.
