Humans are irreplaceable
posted by superbooks on April 9th, 2007 10:42 PM

There is no robot, existing , or one that could be created by anyone, that could replace anyone in my life.

So, there is such a thing as an impossible task. Robots will never ever replace people. They might be able to do things that people do , but they will never be able to think as a human thinks, feel as a human feels or even grow as a human grows. They can't speak as humans, though some can mimic voice a little. Even the robot in the show "small world" is a human.

They could not find a robot to replace a human being.

Quintessentially true, but not the only truth.

Many tasks on SF0 can be very difficult if not downright impossible if taken literally. The trick in these cases is to creatively interpret the task, or to find someway of fulfilling the letter if not the spirit of the task (or sometimes, the spirit if not the letter).

In fact, in elaborating on how you think this task is impossible, you've sparked an idea with which I could easily complete this task. Well, easily if I knew anything about robots. :)

All he does is sit around watching tv and drinking beer. I think I could build a robot that does those those things (or at least sits in a chair facing the tv pouring beer into itself)
