It always seemed to me like the guys in this story were worrying about the wrong things. At least from a "haven't actually read anything else about Rl'yeh" point of view, the intermarriage wasn't nearly as big a deal as the human sacrifice... but that's what freaked everyone out the most.

Then again, HPL was a bit of a genophobe.

Well, there's also the personal horror of turning into a fish-man. That's sort of a big deal, considering that Innsmouth is where the author's family is from.

And yeah, he's a good horror writer, but really quite a bigot. Hell, I actually like "The Street" for its writing, but its theme is rather repugnant to me.
