I half remembered a dream recently in which every freeway in Los Angeles was closed to vehicles. All of the entrances were giant double gates, and all of the freeways were parks. Most of them were wild animal parks. The 5 was like the Serengeti, with lions and zebra roaming freely with the wild grasses and those cool flat trees all over. The 10 was a prairie, with breakouts of forest every here and there. The 405 was a jungle. The 118 was all desert. Some places were public access and anybody could go in at any time, but others (portions of the 5) were closed to visitors. People could look at the lions from the overpasses. I also remember giant, ridiculously large parking lots on the edges of the region, like Irvine and Ontario and Santa Clarita, which were constructed by the city when the city was made into a car-free city, so visitors could park. There were tens of thousands of cars parked in the enormous structures outside the city. The interior of the city only allowed bicycles. The subway system was way more extensive and it was awesome to have walked that city for a little bit even if only in a dream. I also remember these junk piles straight out of Wall-E out in Palmdale and Lancaster and our surrounding deserts full of our discarded cars. I remember there was an artist in Lancaster who was making a 1,000 foot sculpture out of them of a giant greedy monster, it was only half complete at the time of my dreaming.
