to LA? to Chicago? To MPLS? how 'bout spring break? or late january? or the begining of next summer...
I am so down for this. I'll go anywhere. For any reason.
Just not before February.
Let me know when you're planning to swing by Chicagø, so that I can get the tea ready.
pillar of fire by night! smoke by day!
flights of birds stacks of clouds and blue shining water
broken miles then:
sunrise, steam off the river
buildings turned blue then gold then night then sweet wine on the lips, the tremble of feet in our shoes, cold cold air
As I recall...a road trip was already in the process of discussion....to AQØ to see poon. However.....If you all are up for it (and I hope you don't get grossed out when I say this...) we could go to Nepal to see the worlds largest Animal Sacrifice....tempting..takes place in October...
Going to Nepal wouldn't be so much of a road trip, would it?
Seriously, I'll go anywhere anytime. I'll go to Albuquerque and then Chicago.
B-Unit: I CHALLENGE YOU TO A WRITE-OFF!!
Enough of your scattered, rough poetry. Little scraps of muddy insight. Colorless and convoluted: you have offended me and my perception of valuable poetry.
And enough of your callous criticisms of my honest attempts at critiquing and offering information!! It's not about grammar, B-Unit, it's about style and content.
This calls for war.
Since you've already been glove-slapped around, I'll take pity on you (and your pride) and let you call the shots and choose the task. Deadline: Midnight, December 1st.
Kapeesh?
-V
P.S. It must be a writing related task. You yourself claim that you appreciate longish-text. Prove it.
How about Pavement is Paper?
or...
Fickle Sky, perhaps?
I will be waiting to be picked up here in Raleigh. Someone just shoot up a flare and I'll gravitate to it.
A for reals road trip.... Lets go to Mongolia to see camel races in Feb.....and then ride them! That would be amazing. Cause honestly who says, "Hey, for this years vacation....I'm going to Mongolia" ??
Adeline. I will pick you up in Feb or march. Meet me in Candler. We will road trip it. I want to see all the best and most tacky attractions in the US!
Listen ups - Mlle. The Vixen and I were in discussion. Guatemala City. GC0. A trip.
From LA to GC, $89 on Spirit Air. It can be done.
And pyramids. Mayan pyramids.
It's totally going down.
Eddy: you're coming with us, whether you like it or not :)
Who says, "Hey, for this years vacation....I'm going to Mongolia" ??
I do, damn it. Or at least I did, last year. And yes, I was there in February.
An SF0 road trip could be intriguing. I'd be down for it, given a suitably cheap destination. (Probably not going to be free until March, though. Which probably means I'll miss any immediate plans you wonderful people have cooked up.)
Oh dear lord...a bunch of nerds getting drunk on an international flight.
What ever happened to a good ol' road trip? We can all hop in Chicken John's bus (if he and Herbie are willing), pop in the Pricilla Queen of the Desert soundtrack, and task our Abba-loving way to Chicago or Minneapolis or Albequerque or Tucson or LA or D.C...
pliffent & sart say the bells of saint bart's
the day before advent it is
weaouww! The V girl on the wing, my red cheeks, my aching back bending to get the gauntlet;
miss! you dropped something
I like the way you slipped Tucson in there Bex.
B-Unit: Revive the Oral Tradition it is.
How's your singing voice?
The Bus is pretty great for this sort of thing. If people really want to go on a trip in the bus, we can start planning for it. It's a pretty amazing way to see the country. I went to New York in it. Chicken knows of some really outstanding art along the way... any way.
How reliable is the bus?
Can we get it a tune up or anything?
Wouldn't want too many flat tires or need a new alternator in Wichita
Mmmmm...Minneapolis. Turkey Tom........calling my name......
Chicago is pretty near where i live...I couldn't road trip, but if y'all met in Chiggy I could come hang out...
fUCK YEAH!
aLLRIGHT fIRST sTOP MN TO VISIT MN0 AND GO TO jIMMY jOHNS FOR A GARGANTUIN AND A TURKEY TOM!!!
I'll take that turkey tom now please..... sooo goooooooood!!!
And then to Jersey Mikes for a #9 Blandwich
wait wait before Jersey Mike's, I want to go squash pennies on the train tracks!
oooooh a coast to coast SF0 tasking road trip bus!!!!
Okay...before we leave San Fran, we must start off on a good note. Then I suggest we swing up to Portland and check out this place.
I also want to see as many of these roadside attractions as possible please!!
Anyone around DC up for this? I could go for a nice road trip.
Start saving your dimes for diesel.
Right now the forecast is for late spring early summer.
More details to come.
Stay tuned.
Herbie, I am seriously in. Let's get on the bus and go anywhere.
May 17th - 25th.
9 days of pure sf0 bliss on a bus.
Figuring out a route.
Think avoiding mountains when possible, and think going in a circle instead of one major destination. Bus will leave from and return to San Francisco.
Eddy, tacky roadside attractions are certain.
S P A R, the bus is pretty sturdy. Any trip we would take will have a seasoned mechanic on board.
Is this still happening?!
After seeing Journey : Chicago I a have been reminded of how much I am in dire need of a roadtrip.
Is this all fantasy or is their a possibility of it actually happening?!
Chicago could make a lot of sense...
Neat! I call shot gun!!! I've never been to Chicago! Plus I've got some friends there that I've been meaning to visit. As long as there are no photo jobs lined up for that week....count me in!
i'm in.
road trips are great and buses make them even better. last august the former sf0 players, the EGBT crew bought a 1953 greyhound bus for a few hundred dollars and we went on a road trip. which was awesome. except for that (needless to say), the bus that only cost a few hundred dollars barely made it there and didn't make it back.
it was especially cool, because the bus was wired to provide high speed satellite internet to the many computers in the bus. and we threw a generator in there and i was the official DJ. and we had couches and a large TV. i suspect it wasn't street legal...
but i'd be willing to help alter the bus if such a service is needed. i'm no mechanic though
internet? Wow. We could post our adventures as we went...
for everyone who wants to go. Count me in!
Officially reserving a spot on the bus.
I have cleared my calendar.
I would love to! Too many amazing people come from MN. We'll have a week though, is that enough time to get there and back on a bus?
This has gotten cooler than I could have ever expected!!!
WIFI?!?!? We could set up a webcam and do this...
I think a modification of "lock yourself in a room" to "Hop on a tasking bus" is acceptable!
A streaming tasking mobile full of you guys.
I think I am still in shock and full of disbelief that something this cool could actually happen
Hey sparbaco....isn't MN on the way to Chicago?
a week is plenty of time. I made it from sf to boston in 58 hours. That would give you plenty of time
Sweet lets go bowling with Jackie and the SFØ crew and drink cheap beer. Then lets go to that really weird store that has little homies and gas masks!
Oh wait...can we see a very large array?? That's near Dattle NM right? oh and go see poon too of course...
For the sake of Herbie's sanity -- is anyone else qualified to drive a bus?
Let's make a new task: Get a Class B license before May 17th, 2008.
I proposed the task. I don't know how to give you a link. Also, I meant for the title to be
"Eddy Likes The Open Road And Wind In Her Hair"
But It only says Eddy Like
Holy cow. This could be really interesting.
I'm in.
"WIFI?!?!? We could set up a webcam and do this...
I think a modification of "lock yourself in a room" to "Hop on a tasking bus" is acceptable!"
my command offers a bus driving license...I wonder if they would let me take the class even though I am getting out of the Navy soon...
Yes, MN is on the way to Chi-town. I don't know how long it takes- but we've driven to BRC in a little less than two days, if that gives any indication.
If this happened, it would probably be one of the most cool things... ever.
seriously.
The bus would have to be sf0'd up though.
If people loose intrest in this, I will be angry.
Oh, we're going. I already have May 17-25 blocked off. We're going.
Where've I been- this is beyond an awesome idea!
May 17-25th, eh? I'll set it aside. Although, I say we start from Coachella... on May 1st.
Hell... I'd even sublet my apartment for a month+ trip.
I have not forgotten...I'm dead set...fuck I'll quit my stupid job for this...
I've been hankerin' to visit the Twin Cities for... what, a year and half?
Midwest here we come!
Look out Tikalzero!
Check yourself ABQØ...
When's EasyJet & RyanAir going to fly from NYC, eh?
exactly how long is this trip going to be?
I say we drive over to visit the GYØ players!
Anyone fancy a ferry!?
I apologize that I just caught this thread now.
I'll be expecting you all on the 20th of May. Tea and pancakes all around! Anyone for a game of Journey to the End of the Night?
If the bus breaks down and you are a single day late, the party is off.
What's the schedule, kids- maybe I'll make the trip to Chi-town from Mpls with you!
Hey, I live in Geneva, which is about 30 miles west of Chicago. I would be delighted if the party bus decided to make a stop in Geneva and I'd be willing to host a little party for the bus. As an added bonus my house can sleep a whole bunch of people (4 extra beds, 4 couches, lots of comfy carpeted floor) so it would be okay for the bus to crash here for a night. I'd need dates but the offer is on the table crazy bus people.
It's been two months since this has been discussed at all. My schedule is still clear from May 17th - 25th. Is this still happening? Herbie?
Diesel is expensive in many ways. Right now after the math is done the calculator tells us that using the bus is a simple financial equation; One dollar per one mile traveled. That's just for the gas. Not the oil ("If it's not leakin' it, burnin' it, or at least covered in it then it's dead"). Or when a $800 wheel repair happens. Or tune ups.. or...
The bus is expensive.
This being said I see a few avenues.
If our friend Chicken John would like to still use it with us, and we can raise the funds to do so let's do it.
(I still think that a week is not enough time to get to Chicago and back.)
We could use other modes of transport (i.e. other buses and trains and the like). Traveling in a pack will be fun regardless of how we do it.
I'd love to go on a road trip with y'all.
Ah, right.
So probably not gonna happen in May.
I'm ready to go whenever a group comes to a date decision.
I love trains. Love. Trains. But they get you there too fast?
If people pitched in we could maybe rent one of those big huge vans that they use to take the inmates of the loony bin to the park in?
I don't care about going "too fast".
Think it would be nice to have an adventure a bunch of different initial-initial-Zeros.
For example:
SF0 goes to LA0. SF0+LAO head East.
Meanwhile MN0 meets up with SL0 and CG0. They head south.
DC0 (man, I'm bad at geography) heads southwest.
You get the idea. We figure out at which station we will meet. Get on one train. Go all together to another city.
It seems that even with trains being "too fast" it still takes 34 hours to get to Emeryville, CA to Denver, CO. 22 from SF to Seattle. 22 to Boise. 18 to Salt Lake.
I think an extravagant hobo party would be delightful.
Man, I'm stuck in Chicago for the Summer.
But feel free to stop by!
SLØ loves this idea! SLØ also loves trains. A train requires nothing more than a ticket and punctuality. No fuel, no drivers, no baggage x-rays, no assigned seats. We'll dress sharp, put on our most exotic accents, and play outdated parlor games in the dining car.
Is this an acceptable way to travel by rail?
you would probably use child slaves instead, you lazy evil bastard.
Dearest Fellow Adventurers,
After reading some of the Journey to the End of the Night Chicago completions my desire to go on a roadtrip has become unignorable. Call it an open invitation for happenstance. Is any of this madness going to happen or are we simply drawing out plans on the surf? I just don't think I can bear being teased
~Shâlaco
Alright guys, school's out in two and a half weeks. Then we have about two weeks to make this happen, or I'm out.
Lets do it.
Amtrack. Double decker.
or
Rentavan.
or
Greyhound.
or
Several people who own cars and rotating crews and gas purchasers.
or
a team of tandem bikes.
If you are in SF and interested, raise your hand please. (or rather, comment here).
We'll give Keesey and the gang a run for thier money: You don't need a bus full of drugs to expand your mind or act weird (though I'm sure it would help). Just a large enough group of audacious hooligans with little respect for social norms and several 80mph days of free time...
I've got camping gear...
i'm level zero-ing this. but it probably won't involve sf0 players or visiting them. sorry.

It was quite a pleasure.

There are a small number of days of my life that I treasure as life-alteringly inspiring. Profoundly memorable. Full of love and friends and play and joy. Days like those come along maybe once a year if you're lucky and open-minded enough. You canno...

we went on a roadtrip to chicago. on the roadtrip, we saw: Alleys and an accordian Beetlebomb, bicycles and bandanas Cupcakes, cuties and chasers Dax Elephant(pink with glasses) at one of the exits in Wisconsin Flag (that we stole for a short while)...
This should happen, regardless of whether it's a task or not.
