Activity:

Diluted Flash Mob

Enrollment

15/unlimited

Organizer:

Secret Agent

Description:

I really like the dance patches in this, and figure they ought to be propagated more. So wherever you find yourself on August 28th at 17h30, draw a dance patch, and dance in it.

All you need is drawing stuff (chalk is nice).

I'll be starting alone, then planning to meet with others in London at 6:12pm. Details for that here.

Any other details for social dance patching to follow the solo part can be added here.

I'm off to Climate Camp in about 10 minutes, and will do maintenance, updating, commenting, adding collaborators, and so forth, but not until I'm back from the field on the 11th.

Figured I ought to get the date out there now though so people can scheme.

Definitely local dance patching, if not Londoning.

Scheming is required.

EDIT: Wait, the 28th? MK Dance patching!

9:30 AM in San Francisco, 11:30 AM in St. Louis, 12:30 PM in New York.

p.s. i invented the dance patch.

p.p.s. and no, i am not the SF0 Planner, i just gave him/her some good ideas (The Lost Dog signs were mine, too.)

Bex, I will dance with you in an early morning dance patch, if you need company :)

I welcome as collaborators any Chrononauts who might argue against the tyranny of the time zone, choosing to assert that they were dancing at 17h30, whatever the silly time stamp might say.

p.s. kudos Myrna.

yes, this is nice if it gets more people in Dance Patches, but for my part, I will be dancing simultaneously, concurrently, and synchronously (and did i mention solitarily) with you from across the pond. 12:30 pm Eastern Time. Look to the west, across the Atlantic, and think of me. I will look to the East and give you a long-distance high five.

p.s. thank you

While we're sort of on the topic -

I can't believe the planner made the public singing optional and the public dancing required. I mean, what the fuck? Humans were made for singing. Anybody who hasn't had their larynx out can do it. But dancing? *shudders*

It's like: run naked through the supermarket screaming bible verses, and then put on a silly hat. But, if you find the hat embarrassing you can choose to just write the word "hat" on a note card and hand it to somebody instead.

Adoration!

:) Much love for Loki.

(For great style, rather than agreeing with the content, though--dancing is great; it's better if you don't worry about it so much.)

Loki and the Planner are both wrong. +1

"humans are made for singing and dancing!"

so very true. especially when there is rain and half open shirts.. oh wait, that's bollywood.

Loki, you are crazy.

Everyone can and should dance.

There are people who should not sing.

Loki, you might be my favorite dancer in all the world.

('Cept that guy I danced with at prom. He was sooo cute. I love boys with big fluffy yellow ears.)

And god bless you Minch for confusing Bollywood and the real world. Happens to me all the time. More rain and half open shirts!
I would love to dance patch with you. ::blush::

Oh, then we must dance patch. I will be at work at 9:30am... but what better place to dance patch than in the financial district :)

I really think I was born for Bollywood. I feel like I finally make sense in the world.

I disaggree with Loki too: bad singing can be used as torture while bad dancing never hurt anybody.

What a lovely event.

You were given a choice to sing or do something else for one simple reason. While the dancing may have been super embarrassing for you, you didn't have to walk up to someone and do it, so I had little concern for you. With the singing, you had to approach people and follow them while singing. I mean, I could see someone being really apprehensive about that.

And my disappearance? Think kidnapped by international spies. While in Uruguay. I've secured release though.

posted by Secret Agent on August 12th, 2008 6:09 PM

For the record, those international spies had nothing to do with me. This time.

Also, Susy, you're not quite right--I once did some terrible break dancing and ended up bruised for weeks. But true, at least I didn't hurt anyone else.

Now, if only (oh i wish i wish i wish) it rained in all our cities at once... then we could all dance in the rain together.... I have a deep fondness for dancing in the rain. It fills me with much joy and happiness.

posted by Secret Agent on August 26th, 2008 6:39 AM

As much as I love dancing in the rain, I'm not sure if my camera would. So maybe I'll hope for intermittent drizzle, so I can get footage but still with the wet look?

Also, I've finally gotten London's socail bit up. There's a link up there, and facebook nonsense.

I suppose so, or possibly in a condom, as works very well with phones. (The optics are affected less than you'd think, at least on an iPhone)

It has been decided by my office mates that my dance patch should be.... IN our office. They like the idea too much of me dancing for them that I decided it was too good to pass up.... I will try to inspire them to dance with me :)

I've been makin' dance patches all over the mission! I've been yelled at by drug dealers, praised by cops, joined by drunks, and i may have convinced a sweet hipster to join us for the 5:30 patch rally in front of Mr. S! I love my neighborhood.
Yay!

Let's get together people!
